Despite all the talk about lasers, questionable referee calls and conspiracy theories, the Oakland Raiders found a way to pull out a 27-20 victory over the Houston Texans in Mexico City. For three quarters, the Texans controlled the contest with their ground attack, tight ends and an advantageous matchup between wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and cornerback D.J. Hayden. Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler spread the football and logged 14 first downs via the passing attack. Running back Lamar Miller notched 24 rush attempts for 104 yards. Houston’s defense held the Raiders to fewer than 200 total yards going into the final quarter. Several drops and ...
On two weeks' rest in a quasi-home game against a mediocre-despite-its-record opponent, the Oakland Raiders did not play well Monday night in Mexico City. Star wide receiver Amari Cooper had just two catches for 14 yards through three quarters. His fellow starting wideout, Michael Crabtree, produced five yards of offense on seven targets. Top back Latavius Murray had just 33 yards on 12 carries. Raiders receivers dropped several Derek Carr passes, and Carr threw a rotten second-half interception. And yet the Raiders won, 27-20. Believe it or not, that's a good sign. Because in the past, a performance like this would have inevitably ...

Latest on Gray's Future with Athletics Friday, Nov. 11 According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the A's aren't actively shopping Gray but are open to a deal if the right one presents itself. After finishing third in the 2015 American League Cy Young Award voting, Gray experienced a huge drop-off in 2016. The 27-year-old righty went just 5-11 with a 5.69 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 117 innings. He was also limited to 22 starts due to a pair of ...
Remember when Sonny Gray seemed to have one foot in an Oakland A's uniform and one foot on the trading block? Those were interesting times. Now they may be ready for a comeback. No two Major League Baseball offseasons are exactly alike, but a prevailing theme through all of them is the widespread need for starting pitching. In a related story, another prevailing theme are the showers of cash that fall on the best free-agent aces. The 2016-17 offseason, however, presents a conundrum: There are no aces on the open market. Rich Hill is good, but also older and not very durable. After him, ...
The Oakland Raiders shoved the AFC West bully into a cramped locker in front of the world on Sunday. NFL leagues offices decided to match the Raiders with the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos in a prime-time slot. Some analysts predicted a Raiders’ victory, but most didn’t see the Silver and Black dominating a team that’s won the division five consecutive seasons.  The Broncos field one of the best defenses in the league. Even without cornerback Aqib Talib, Denver limited the San Diego Chargers' top-three scoring offense to 19 points last week. However, the Raiders accomplished something no other team has done against ...
