With enough salary-cap space to make some significant and much-needed changes, this year’s free-agency period will be quite busy for general manager Reggie McKenzie and the Oakland Raiders.  No, adding just through free agency is not the ideal way to build a franchise, but with the patience of ownership constantly in question, this regime needs to stockpile talent in short order.  For the Raiders, this influx in salary-cap space comes at the perfect time, as the free-agent market is set to be relatively deep at a number of positions at which they need an upgrade. While the Raiders couldn’t necessarily be in the ...
We are 16 days away from the Oakland A's pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training. General manager Billy Beane focused on constructing one of the most dominant-looking bullpens in the game, on paper, to counter interdivision rivals' moves for power in their lineups. Who will win that tug of war is one of the biggest questions heading into 2014. Most are familiar faces, with the exception of key arrivals like Scott Kazmir and Jim Johnson. With the trade of Brett Anderson and the loss of Bartolo Colon, it's now up to Jarrod Parker to take the helm as Oakland's ace. Johnson replaces Grant ...

The 2014 NFL draft will be the highlight offseason event for the Oakland Raiders in what they hope will be a relatively quick rebuilding process. Being able to come away from the draft with at least a few instant-impact players would go a long way toward ensuring those hopes become a reality.  While the majority of attention goes toward the first round, history shows there are impact players to be found throughout the draft. Of course, finding them is the hard part. With a full slate of draft selections for the first time in several years, here is a look at an initial ...
As is the case with every team leading up to the NFL draft, the Senior Bowl week is a key part of the scouting process for the Oakland Raiders. Being able to watch the prospects in a live environment and meet with them for the first time can allow a team to gather plenty of necessary information. Every year, there are players who are dominant in practice sessions but disappear during game action, and there are those who do the exact opposite.  Many will put the most stock into the game, but the key is certainly remaining consistent throughout the week. With plenty of ...
The start of free agency is a mere two months away, and the Oakland Raiders are certain to be active in looking to address their many needs throughout the roster. Mass spending in free agency isn’t always the best strategy in building a team, but the Raiders need to add talent and do so in bulk. As a result, with an influx in salary-cap space set to take effect, the Silver and Black should find themselves in the running for many of the top free agents in what is a deep group overall. With plenty of areas to seek upgrades, here is a ...
There's no question about it: The 2014 offseason is going to be a monumental one for the Oakland Raiders. With head coach Dennis Allen returning for a third season, now's the time for this team to start putting the pieces together and begin the transformation back into a contender. That transformation starts with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie. The man responsible for infusing this roster with talent, McKenzie's ability to make sound decisions will be on full display throughout 2014. Forget everything he's done since arriving in Oakland. The 2014 offseason will be the defining moment of the McKenzie era. Can he add ...
As Major League Baseball's arbitration deadline passed January 17th, the Oakland A's locked up all of their eligible players except one: Josh Reddick. What happens next is anyone's guess. There aren't too many options, though. The two teams can work out an agreement before they head to arbitration court in February. If they can't, then an arbitration panel will choose Reddick's desired salary, or the Athletics' proposed salary. A's beat writer John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group provides the salary exchange: If the two sides meet exactly in the middle, then Reddick will receive $2.625 million in 2014. Since arriving on the big league scene ...
The NFL draft is the highlight of every offseason, and with a full crop of selections at their disposal this year, Reggie McKenzie and the Oakland Raiders will need to come away from which with some impact rookie players. The Raiders will have plenty of areas to address throughout the roster, and as much as the “best player available” strategy will be in play, it should be emphasized within what is a wide range of positional needs.  Of course, those needs could very well change after what is sure to be a busy free agency period leading up to the draft, but ...
