Erin's Oakland Sport Picks
In the NFL, it’s difficult to keep an exceptionally explosive offensive team under wraps. The Buffalo Bills found out the hard way after leading the Oakland Raiders 24-9 midway through the third quarter. After Bills running back Mike Gillislee scored his second touchdown, his teammates celebrated, almost excessively. Clearly, head coach Rex Ryan didn’t show his team the Raiders’ film, which illustrates how lethal the offense can become when rallying for a comeback. Then again, maybe the Bills couldn’t stop what they expected to happen next. As witnessed in the previous weeks, the Raiders didn’t execute for all 60 minutes, but they put ...
You aren't going to find many anxious fans of the Oakland Raiders at the moment. Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills lifted the first-place Raiders to 10-2 on the season. It's the first time the Silver and Black have posted that many victories since their run to Super Bowl XXXVII. If the season ended today, the Raiders would have home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs as the top seed in the conference. However, it's a good thing the season doesn't end today. For all the back-slapping and attaboys in the Bay Area of late, there's a problem in Oakland. It hasn't cost ...

No decision was made on his playing status for the remainder of the season.  Smith Working to Return from Suspension Monday, Dec. 5 Rapoport reported Smith is setting up a meeting with Goodell or a "high-ranking official" to make his case that the league should reinstate him. On Dec. 4, Rapoport reported Smith had done all of his necessary ...

Crabtree Active vs. Bills Sunday, Dec. 4 The Raiders announced that Crabtree was available against Buffalo on Sunday. Latest on Crabtree's Practice Status Saturday, Dec. 3 The Raiders named Crabtree as a limited participant in practice from Wednesday to Friday. Raiders Need Crabtree Healthy Heading into Postseason  Crabtree has been dealing with this ankle injury since prior to the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers but was able to suit up. Outfielder Matt Joyce found a new home Wednesday, as he signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Oakland Athletics.  The team announced the move after Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports was the first to report the deal. Joyce, 32, hit .242 with 13 home runs, 45 runs and 42 RBI in 140 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2016 season. It was his sixth season with at least 10 or more homers, though his batting average matched his mediocre lifetime average of .242. That said, Joyce posted an excellent .403 on-base percentage and struck out just 67 times in 231 at-bats. In ...
Derek Carr's hand looked like the mangled weather vane you find in a field after a tornado splinters the old barn. His pinkie was like a Christmas tree ornament-sized rendering of Joe Theismann's leg.  "Probably some of the worst pain I've felt in my life," Carr told reporters after his Raiders squeezed past the Panthers Sunday, 35-32. Well, of course, it was. Ruthless criminals in movies break fingers to get information, after all. If Carr's pinkie had fallen off and rolled away with the football that dislocated it, the injury would have been only slightly more gruesome.  You know how this story ended. Carr ...
Just when you thought the Oakland Raiders would trounce the Carolina Panthers with a high-powered offense, disaster struck via injury and a crumbling defense. Yet, the Raiders picked up the pieces for another comeback victory to clinch their first winning season since 2002.  The Silver and Black overwhelmingly dominated the first half with a fluent passing attack and a stingy defense. Oakland only allowed 12 passing yards through 30 minutes. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw more touchdown passes to defensive lineman Khalil Mack than his own receivers. The Raiders edge-rusher returned an interception for a touchdown before halftime, and Oakland led ...
The Oakland Raiders snapped the NFL's longest active streak without a winning season by defeating the Carolina Panthers 35-32 on Sunday, per ESPN Stats & Info. The Raiders hadn't posted a winning season since 2002, going 13 straight without more than eight victories. The last Oakland team to do so went 11-5 and lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A number of good picks in recent NFL drafts have played a huge role in the team's turnaround this season. High-round names such as Derek Carr (2014), Amari Cooper (2015) and Khalil Mack (2014) each made significant impacts both Sunday and overall this ...
Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, the Oakland Raiders defense surrendered four touchdowns in a 13-minute span. Early in the fourth quarter, the Raiders were devoid of momentum after choking on a 24-7 lead. They couldn't run the ball with any effectiveness, and their star quarterback, Derek Carr, was dealing with an injured finger on his throwing hand.  Yet the Raiders scored the final 11 points of the game to win 35-32, marking their fifth straight victory and Carr's second fourth-quarter comeback win in a seven-day span.  Just like last week, when Carr was nearly perfect in the final quarter as the Raiders ...
