Last season marked the end of the Oakland Raiders' eight year Super Bowl hangover. Back in the 2002-03 season, the Oakland Raiders, the NFL's top offense, faced off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the NFL's top defense, in Super Bowl XXXVII. In this game, the overused cliché "defense wins championships" proved to be true. The Bucs routed the Raiders 48-21. Many could in fact argue that the scoreboard down-played the dominance of the Bucs. Tampa's talented secondary intercepted Rich Gannon a Super Bowl record five times, three of which were returned for touchdowns. After eight disappointing years, the Raiders are poised to ...
It appears that the Rich Harden era will continue in Oakland, for now, and the Lars Anderson era in Oakland may never begin after all.Reports surfaced earlier in the day that a trade between the A’s and Red Sox was imminent, sending Harden to Boston in exchange for 23 year-old first base prospect Lars Anderson and a player to be named later. The deal seemed to be a perfect fit for both teams. The Red Sox would be acquiring a pitcher with the capability to be a true difference maker when healthy and the A’s ...
There has been quite a lot of quietness coming from Oakland this summer. Their bats have been muted. The pitching has been good but rather noiseless. The attendance has been quiet. And the front office has been rather mum with regards to making any changes to their roster prior to the MLB trading deadline. In most seasons, the Athletics are usually one of the more active participants in the trade market, either acquiring players in blockbuster deals for a playoff push, or ridding themselves of large contracts to rebuild for the future. This year, however, has been rather hushed, as general ...
So often I drive beside young people who play their radios so loudly that my car vibrates and my ears tingle. Mario Henderson did that one day and ended up in a little trouble. He announced on his Facebook page the good news. Many of us would agree that this good news is welcomed since the lockout is over and the guys are in camp. Here is the quote from Henderson's Facebook page:"I just got news that my gun charge has been dropped and everything is good and off my record. God is good all the time and I'm so thankful for ...
I know I may be too late to make this plea for Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. I will do it anyway. There are a ton of things in the works right now for the Oakland Raiders and a lot of this hinges on what Asomugha decides to do. It seems the longer this thing plays out, the more hope there is that the cornerback stays in a Raiders uniform. Are the Raiders trying desperately to clear salary cap space in a last-ditch effort to afford the most highly sought-after free agent in the NFL? Raiders Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley is reportedly supposed to ...
If hitting is contagious, the Oakland A’s have the plague. Despite losing on Thursday, the A’s still banged out eight runs on 10 hits with a pair of big flies. Since the All-Star break, the A’s offense has been infinitely better. If you’d asked me who would have the highest team batting two weeks after the All-Star break, I’d probably have guessed the Yankees, Red Sox or Rangers. And I would have been wrong. Even if I guessed another 10 teams, I’d still be wrong. Why? Because the Oakland A’s have the highest team batting average ...
Michael Lombardi on Twitter has reported that the 49ers are telling people they are out on Asomugha, leaving only Dallas and the New York Jets as the lone contenders. The family feud between the Ryan brothers should be an interesting one to follow in the coming days, but to be honest, if the Cowboys are as serious as many believe, the Jets have little bargaining power against Jerry Jones and company. A move to Dallas would really send a message to some of the most recent WR acquisitions like Roy Williams to Chicago and Devin Aromashodu to Minnesota, while also increasing ...
In his past two starts Guillermo Moscoso is 0-1 with a 10.24 ERA, raising his ERA from 2.16 to 3.47. I know that two starts doesn't make a season, but is this a sing of things to come? It's possible, but I don't know how wise it would be to ignore 50 innings of work for a rough 9-2/3 inning patch. Especially when he was 3-4 in that 50 innings with the aforementioned 2.16 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.Moscoso has had four bad outings in which he gave up four or more runs in 6-1/3 or fewer innings. I'm not ...
As the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies near, like clockwork, so do the heated debates about which players of yesteryear are most worthy of joining the ranks of the football immortals. With a veritable backlog of deserving players, compelling cases can be made, both for or against, a given player’s induction. So armchair pundits and seasoned sportswriters alike should be wary of employing the “snub” label too liberally when discussing individuals who, at first glance, seem to possess Hall of Fame-worthy credentials but have yet to be inducted. That being said, the “snub” label is absolutely apt when discussing the ...
Read my last two articles if you haven't already. It should get you up to date on all things Raiders. It's Thursday. In other words, this is the last day of free agency before players can actually start signing their contracts instead of agreeing.Like I've said, the Raiders are getting little to no attention by the mainstream media. But I have all the good stuff right here. Camp has started officially today, so let's go.Begin Slideshow
