Fresh off of winning their second straight American League West championship, the Oakland A's look to the last week as preparation for a well-deserved return to the postseason. There is still much to play for, with the opportunity for home-field advantage in all rounds still very much a possibility.  So the next phase of a championship puzzle is setting up the roster for the postseason push itself. Who stays, who plays, who sits and who is on the roster? That is what the last week of the season poses for the A's, who sit in good shape to host the American League ...
On Monday Night Football, the Oakland Raiders traveled to Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Everyone knew what was waiting for them there: a Denver Broncos blowout. The media knew it was coming, and all 12 Bleacher Report NFL experts picked the Broncos. The bookies in Vegas knew it, too. Per VegasInsider.com, the Raiders were 16.5-point underdogs at kickoff. Surely, the players and coaches for both teams knew it... ...except Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor went 19-of-28 for 281 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions. His 67.9 percent completion rate and 10.0 average yards per attempt would have been efficient and effective enough to ...
Terrelle Pryor passed for 283 yards and a touchdown, but the Oakland Raiders quarterback also suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s 37-21 loss to the Denver Broncos, putting his status for next week’s game in question. It wasn’t a very good day all-around for coach Dennis Allen’s team. The secondary was surgically picked apart by Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. The running game went absolutely nowhere. Darren McFadden’s best play of the night came on a halfback pass. Oakland couldn’t return the favor…and couldn’t stop Denver’s three-headed ground game. All in all, it was a rough afternoon in the Mile High ...
Just when Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor was starting to show something, he received a blow that could derail his progress and open up the field for a man who can't seem to win a starting job. Pryor completed 19 of his 28 pass attempts for 281 yards and a passing touchdown in a 37-21 loss to the Denver Broncos that was not nearly as bad as everyone expected. Unfortunately, the first-year starter cannot celebrate his performance. According to CSN California's Scott Bair, Pryor suffered a concussion during Monday night's game, which places him in jeopardy of missing next Sunday's matchup. Matt Flynn spent ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor was forced to leave in the fourth quarter of Oakland's Monday Night Football matchup against the Denver Broncos.  The Raiders announced Pryor was being evaluated for a head injury: QB @TerrellePryor has a head injury and is being evaluated. — OAKLAND RAIDERS (@RAIDERS) September 24, 2013 After being evaluated, it was announced Pryor suffered a concussion, as noted by Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area: Official now. Terrelle has been formally diagnosed with a concussion. Tracy porter too. #raiders — Scott Bair (@BairCSN) September 24, 2013 Pryor said on Tuesday morning following the game that he "feels great." He is being held out of ...
The Oakland Raiders (1-2) were defeated 37-21 in a prime-time showdown with the archrival Denver Broncos (3-0). Game Analysis for the Oakland Raiders Pass Offense: Denarius Moore finished over the century mark, hauling in six catches for 124 yards and a score, but he also dropped a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, quarterback Terrelle Pryor finished 19-of-28 for 281 yards and no scores or interceptions before leaving the game early. In relief time, Matt Flynn was 1-of-2 for 19 yards. Rookie wide receiver Brice Butler finished with three grabs for 54 yards. Run Offense: The Raiders’ offensive line was nothing short of abysmal. Running back Darren McFadden averaged a ...
The Oakland Raiders are in a position to shock the football world by going into Denver for Monday Night Football and taking down Peyton Manning and the mighty Broncos.  To get a good feel for the scale of this possible upset, let me just say that Bovada.lv has the Broncos as 16-point favorites. That spread is no surprise.  At this point in the season, the 2-0 Broncos are almost universally considered the best team in the AFC. Meanwhile, the 1-1 Raiders are busy trying to prove they aren't terrible.  The perception of both teams will be drastically different if the Raiders are victorious on ...
It is a safe bet that Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is going to do plenty of damage to the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football at 8:40 p.m. ET. All the Raiders can hope to do is slow Manning down. While all might seem lost for Oakland's defense, there are a number of players who may be able to execute this to an extent worth noting. Three in particular—defensive end Lamarr Houston and cornerbacks Mike Jenkins and rookie D.J. Hayden—have a shot at doing just that. Aside from veteran safety Charles Woodson, the Raiders do not typically boast a well-known defense.  Oakland's 2013 first-round ...
With the Oakland A's officially locking down the AL West title, it's time for GM Billy Beane to build his ALDS roster. Oakland is lining up to face the Detroit Tigers in a rematch of last year's first-round series. The Tigers will be throwing four right-handed starters, which on paper is a favorable matchup for an A's team that leans heavily to the left side.  When Beane and his staff sit down to draw up the team's 25-man roster for the ALDS, there are quite a few directions that they can go with it. For an insight into how the roster will shake ...
Oakland Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson has emerged as a bona fide American League Most Valuable Player candidate in his first full year in the majors. Were it not for Miguel Cabrera's Triple Crown run, Chris Davis' power surge or Mike Trout's all-around brilliance, Donaldson would be the clear choice for American League MVP. Some writers, like USA Today's Jorge L. Ortiz, say the A's third baseman stands out over all his competition.  Unlike Cabrera and Davis, Donaldson can play defense. Trout is a more complete player, but he couldn't carry the Angels to a winning record.   Hitting Donaldson doesn't lead the league in any ...
