Here's what we know to this point on the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday: Terrelle Pryor has been cleared to play and will get the start. Wait, no, he won't; Matt Flynn will go. Wait, no, it's Pryor. Actually, not so fast my friend, it's going to be Flynn.  Confused yet? You should be.  On Saturday night, Vic Tafur of The San Francisco Chronicle wrote that Pryor would be starting on Sunday: Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor will start Sunday against the Washington Redskins, six days after sustaining a concussion, league sources told the Chronicle Saturday. Backup Matt Flynn took most of the reps in ...
The Oakland Raiders surprised a lot of people when they selected cornerback D.J. Hayden out of the University of Houston in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. The Raiders traded down to No. 12 to select Hayden, but general manager Reggie McKenzie would later say he was prepared to take him with the third overall pick. Needless to say, the Raiders were high on Hayden, but he missed a lot of training camp after having scar tissue removed from his abdomen—a generally non-serious result of the serious surgery he had last fall that saved his life. Hayden still made ...
The Oakland Raiders faced one of the game’s best pocket passers during their loss to the Denver Broncos last week. In Week 4 they’ll square off against a completely different type of quarterback in Washington’s Robert Griffin III. Head coach Dennis Allen isn’t even certain who his own quarterback will be as the Raiders try to reach .500 for the first time this season. Terrelle Pryor returned to practice in limited non-contact drills Thursday but still hasn’t been cleared to play after suffering a concussion following a helmet-to-helmet collision against Denver. Matt Flynn has taken all the reps with the first-team offense ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor suffered a concussion after receiving a monster hit from Denver Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard during Monday Night Football. The hit left Pryor angry. During an interview with ESPN, the quarterback said, "I think he should get fined, definitely." Aside from leaving him angry, the hit also left Pryor sidelined. Matt Flynn has taken the first-team reps this week during practice, according to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area. Pryor has been progressing, but it is still uncertain whether he will be able to suit up on Sunday—he needs to undergo one more round of tests before he is ...
Coming off a big Monday night loss to the Denver Broncos, the Oakland Raiders will be in search of a bounce-back game when they host the Washington Redskins on Sunday. The 0-3 Redskins provide a much more favorable matchup than that of the undefeated Broncos, but to take advantage, the Raiders need to continue on their path of improvement in a few key areas. A convincing win has the potential to re-establish the Raiders as one of the NFL’s surprise teams in 2013, while a loss would have many pressing the panic button. Here are five bold predictions for the Oakland Raiders' Week 4 ...
With quarterback Terrelle Pryor unable to practice because of a concussion, the Oakland Raiders are turning to Matt Flynn to bail them out if Pryor is unable to play in Week 4.That could have a big effect on offensive coordinator Greg Olson’s play-calling in Sunday’s game against the winless Washington Redskins.Flynn took first team reps with the offense on Wednesday, his first time doing so in practice since late in training camp when he lost the top spot on Oakland’s depth chart. Since then, Flynn has been the backup—the same role he had in Seattle a year ago after getting beat ...
Things were ugly for the Oakland Raiders on Monday night as they got blown out by Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos, but it wasn't all bad for the Silver and Black. Oakland's starting quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, emerged from the game with the best performance of his young career, even though he also sustained a concussion. Pryor completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 281 yards and a touchdown, adding 36 yards rushing on four carries. It was the first time Pryor accumulated 300 total yards with at least one touchdown without turning the ball over. Maybe for the first time, Pryor actually looked like the ...
It's amazing what a little flooding can do. In an extensive interview on the John Feinstein show on CBS Sports Radio, Bud Selig weighed in on the Oakland A's messy stadium situation (skip to the 27-minute mark). The 79-year-old commissioner noted of the O.co Coliseum, home of the AL West champions: “It's a pit.” Selig went on to tell Feinstein: We need to deal with that. I’ve had a committee working on it for two or three years, and there’s no question we’re going to have to solve that problem. Selig actually formed the committee at the end of March in 2009. So, it's been closer ...
The Oakland Raiders can point to any number of reasons for why they were blown out by the Denver Broncos in Week 3. Most of them begin with the words, "Peyton Manning." Manning was almost flawless. He completed 32 of 37 attempts for 374 yards and threw three touchdowns. Yet as good as Manning was Monday night, there were a litany of other issues that were equally costly: missed tackles, blown assignments, critical penalties. There were a few hiccups offensively, but the most critical ones came when Oakland was on defense. It all added up to a 37-21 loss that dropped the Raiders ...
The Oakland Raiders made a handful of good plays in Monday night’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Most of the time, however, the defense was trying unsuccessfully to chase down Peyton Manning while the running game in the offense was stuck in neutral most of the game. The 37-21 loss drops the Raiders to 1-2 and leaves them two games out of first place in the AFC West. Here’s a look at the full roster report card grades from the game in Denver.Begin Slideshow
