Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was hired in 2010 as an offensive coordinator. Raiders owner Al Davis hired Hue Jackson in the hopes of developing young QB Jason Campbell and to develop the running game. Hue Jackson had previously been with the Baltimore Ravens where he was able to "mold " QB Joe Flacco. Under Hue Jackson, Joe Flacco made it to the playoffs twice and the Ravens flourished.Hue Jackson also developed Carson Palmer when he was the offensive coordinator at USC.Hue Jackson had the opportunity to become the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears but instead chose the ...
Tough decision: Should he be re-signed or should he be let go?I'm sure many of you are thinking, "It's not a tough decision at all. Nnamdi Asomugha is the best cornerback in the league, we have to keep him." While I understand your feelings, there's much more to this than a simple matter of keeping or letting go of a great player. Most would agree that Asomugha is one of, if not the best cover cornerback in the NFL. I don't know of anyone that doesn't think Asomugha is the best player on the Oakland Raiders for that matter. Only Darrelle ...
Pre-Memorial Day Tribute 2011 Youth is a blessing. Senior years are good, too. The advantage of our senior years is that we can sit, sip our coffee and remember both the good and hard times of the Oakland Raiders.  On this day in 2011, we also remember the contributions of others. After all, in times like these we get relief from viewing sports, especially NFL games once the season starts. Hum, if the season starts on time this year. I don't know about you, but with the international situation increasing in complexity, watching an Oakland Raiders game will be uplifting if they can ...
I won't run through all of the reasons that a manager should be fired; you know them all.I won't run through all of the mistakes that Bob Geren has made over the course of his tenure with the Oakland Athletics; it would turn this into a novel rather than an article.(I do feel compelled to express my frustration over the Trevor Cahill / Hideki Matsui / Conor Jackson switch Friday night, though. Yes it was a National League game and we needed offense, but COME ON. Okay, I feel better now that I got that off my chest, back to ...
A lot has been made of the resurgence of pitching and lack of hitting during the 2010 season, and the carryover into 2011.There is no doubt and no arguing that offense is down league-wide.There are plenty of theories tossed around in attempts to explain the sudden power shortage in the league. We could discuss those talking points at length and never come to a unanimous consensus that would explain the dip in lineup production league wide. The one factor that we can look at and agree upon is which stadiums are currently contributing to the lower number of runs in Major ...
Despite lacking a first round draft pick the Raiders were still able to make a few improvements through the draft. They improved the offensive line, added depth at corner and receiver, and even landed a few luxury picks. With that said the Raiders still have a ways to go and could improve a few positions they were unable to address in the draft. Here's a look at positions and players who I think the Raiders should look at in free agencyBegin Slideshow
The Oakland Raiders seem to be coming off of their second solid offseason in a row. They filled some needs at key positions but they still have a few positions to tighten up. Depending on the CBA, there can be as many as 508 free agents, so there could be a very large game of musical chairs this offseason. With there being so many free agents this offseason, the Raiders will have plenty of choices to go about filling the remaining team needs. Outside linebacker, wide receiver, offensive tackle and maybe corner are the Raiders' main needs. So here is my attempt to put down ...
Ok, it's been awhile. Much has happened since I was last able to take the time to write about my beloved Oakland Raiders. I've been immersed in my real job. Trying to get better and trying to climb the ladder of success. I survived a regime change and now feel good about my career that pays the bills. That being said, it's time to end my own lockout as a Raiders featured columnist. I'm back! Now onto some random ramblings on what's been going on while I was gone. There will be an NFL season and the new deal will be ...
I usually use this to discuss how the A's both impressed and disappointed me over the past week. This week, I must adopt a more somber tone. The A's lost five straight after sweeping the Angels in a two game series. They are surprisingly only two games out of first, and in LAST place. The A's are tied for a season low (or is it high?) three games under. The season is certainly not lost, but my faith is fleeting.Last Monday we saw the A's tie the game with two outs in the ninth and win in extras over our "rivals," the Angels. ...
The Oakland Raiders are ready to make a statement in 2011. Before they take the next step, there are some questions that need to be answered. The Raiders are coming off an 8-8 season that had its share of ups and downs. They went undefeated in division play, but were only 2-8 outside of the division. The Raiders could be one of the surprise teams of 2011, but before that happens they will have to answer these questions first. Begin Slideshow
