Since the rumors of Donovan McNabb heading to Oakland started making their way around the blogosphere, I've maintained that McNabb will not become a Raider . But no matter how much evidence is piled in front of people, everyone still seems to believe that McNabb will be continuing his career in Oakland. Apparently these are the same people who didn't learn from being mislead by a clearly-made-up rumor that had McNabb heading to St. Louis. So here's something else for everyone to ignore: the Raiders, according to Michael Lombardi, are currently in talks with the Minnesota Vikings to ...
Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson was born November 30, 1962.  His mother named him after her favorite actor, Vince Edwards.  Bo attended McAdory High School where he played baseball and was the running back of the school's football team.  In his senior year, he rushed for 1,175 yards and also hit 20 home runs in 25 games. In 1982 Bo was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round, but wanted to attend Auburn University on a football scholarship.  He became an excellent athlete in both football and baseball. While at Auburn he rushed for 4,303 career yards, which was the fourth ...
This has an on-going rumor lately: whether the Oakland Raiders should trade cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Generally, I would prefer that the Raiders retain Asomugha.  But like anything, if the right offer came along, I would listen. One intriguing possibility has been for the Raiders to trade Asomugha to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the Niners two picks in the 1st round of the 2010 NFL Draft. I say that, because when I wrote my Mock Draft for this year, I came to the 49ers and thought, "The draft cannot give them the immediate help they need to contend." The 49ers want to ...
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Chad Gaudin, who was released by the Yankees last Thursday, has signed with the Oakland Athletics and will join the team’s bullpen. Gaudin was set to make $2.95 million this season with the Yankees, but his contract was non-guaranteed. Since he didn’t pitch well this spring and has already dealt with fatigue issues, they decided it was best to cut him so they would only have to pay 25 percent of his salary or $737,500. There is no word yet as to how much exactly the Athletics are going to pay Gaudin this season, but ...
The idea of Al Davis trading Nnamdi Asomugha and a second-round draft pick (No.39) for veteran QB Donovan McNabb isn’t as far fetched as some experts suggest. ESPN “rumor monger” Adam Schefter outlined an important detail about McNabb’s contract situation.     On May 5th Philadelphia will owe No. 5 a hefty $6.2 million roster bonus. And contrary to what Eagles' coach Andy Reid said this past week, McNabb is not the franchise's No.1 guy. By letting the rest of the NFL think that McNabb is still the starter in Philadelphia, the Eagles are able to maintain a high asking price for ...
In the earlier years of Oakland Raiders history, far more young men were drafted. This article contains a discussion of data over a 29-year period. Also, a focus on the last 10 years is presented. One observation is that the Raiders are drafting fewer young players than they did in the past. Here is a portion of the data from 2000 to 2009. Let's just say, we are looking at the 21st century data.    2009 7     2008 5     2007 11     2006 7     2005 7     2004 8     2003 10     2002 8     2001 7     2000 7       7.7 avg last ten years   11 max     5 min     Here are some observations in our "peek-a-boo" analysis. 1. The maximum number of young players drafted in the 21st century (in 2007) is 11. 2. The minimum ...
This year, the Raiders have had a seemingly quiet offseason: No big name signings, only one trade, and a bunch of tabloid-like rumors regarding our QBs waistline. One thing that seemed to go unnoticed by many was the free-agent signing of Yamon Figurs. Figurs is a typical Al Davis pickup; yep, you guessed it, this guy is a speedster. In 2007, the 5'11'', 185 lb. receiver and return specialist was the fastest man in the combine, running a 4.30 in the 40-yard dash—which was enough to warrant a third round pick by the Baltimore Ravens. Figurs has struggled as a receiver with only one reception ...
Trying to figure out an Oakland Raider mock draft can be best described by Forrest Gump when he is talking about a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get. Normally you try mapping out the Raider's needs, and what players are rated the highest and what picks make the most sense. Then a sudden epiphany occurred. This is the Raiders we're talking about, you can't do that. So here goes the most unpredictable Raider's mock draft you've seen, and possibly the most accurate.Begin Slideshow
As a Raider fan, I have come to accept that Al Davis doesn't care about what fans think. Sometimes I wonder why Mr. Davis went into the business of the NFL, because when it comes to the fans, he seems to turn a deaf ear. I said "seems" because that has been my perception, but I could be wrong. Sometimes I wonder if Raider Nation should merely use reverse psychology in order to convince Mr. Davis of needed changes. Nevertheless, I believe that the sports media have been equally callous towards Raider Nation as just pawns in some behind-the-scenes struggle against Mr. Davis ...
"Could it be?" Last night, I heard the news inside my car. Not only did the Oakland Raiders make an offer for the six-time NFC Pro Bowl Quarterback, they were willing to make it work. They went as far as to make a deal without an extension. Looking back on the 2009 season, the Raiders' 5-11 record could have been better with some leadership from the quarterback position. They were able to pull out wins from the Eagles, Steelers, and Bengals. JaMarcus Russell pulled a rare comeback win against the Broncos in Denver. But you have to look at those losses to ...
