The Oakland Raiders have been mired in futility for some time now, and to say that Raider Nation is a little sick and tired of being laughed at by others in NFL circles would be the understatement of the century. The ever rabid and loyal fan base needs some tangible goodness to hang their hats on, as despite the recent struggles they remain steadfast and loyal to the Oakland Raiders and deserve to be rewarded. The team has gone a long way to improving their chances of success for the upcoming 2010 season, with the addition of Hue Jackson at offensive coordinator, ...
This should be a fun season for Oakland Raiders fans. They should be a much improved team and should have a better record than the past few dismal seasons. With Jason Campbell at quarterback instead of JaMarcus Russell, the offense should score a lot more; meanwhile, the defense seems poised to allow fewer big plays and points. What follows is my prediction of how the season will go. Of course everything that follows is predicated on key Raiders players remaining, or getting healthy. The same goes for their opponents. So let’s use that ugly word, and assume everyone stays healthy this season ...
The final roster cuts were made and now it is time to evaluate them.
To me a 53-man roster has to be two deep at each position, one kicker, one punter, one deep snapper, a third QB, a third TB, a third TE, a fifth WR, a seventh LB, and a ninth DB.
The Raiders apparently have a different philosophy on that. Let's take a look at each position (or unit of positions) and how they graded out.
Quarterback
Jason Campbell is the starter and will be a major upgrade over JaMarcus Russell. As far as I know Bruce Gradkowski will ...
The Oakland Raiders drafted Travis Goethel in the sixth round in this past NFL draft.Goethel made the transition from outside linebacker at Arizona State to Middle Linebacker here in Oakland. The youngster has impressed in his three pre-season games, leading to him making Oakland's roster. However, Travis mysteriously missed Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks with an undisclosed injury. He then missed the practices on Saturday and Sunday. Today, the media got a brief chance to talk to Travis, who seemed fine and walked with no limp. When asked about his mysterious injury, Goethel responded by saying "I don't know if I can ...
No strangers to controversy, the Oakland Raiders have created some buzz amongst fans and pundits alike with a few unexpected last minute moves that have left us guessing, after an otherwise great and uncanny off-season.
The recent cut of rookie safety Stevie Brown is the only move I've truly hated this off-season.
At the expense of true depth at tight end and fullback, the Raiders cut tight end Tony Stewart and recently cut John Owens, as well as, the very promising blocker Manase Tonga.
Instead, the Raiders have retained linebacker Sam Williams, safety Hiram Eugene, rookie cornerback Jeremy Ware and an extra ...
The AFC West will be a very intriguing division this season. Fans of the Chiefs, Raiders, Chargers, and Broncos think their team has made the necessary changes to get to the playoffs and contend for a NFL title. As a Raider fan, I don't have much love for the other three teams in the division. However, I'll try my best to provide unbiased analysis and predictions for each team. Enjoy.Begin Slideshow
One of my colleagues seemed appalled that the Oakland Raiders have only one fullback. Since the first game of the regular season is with the Tennessee Titans, I did some research on their fullback, Ahmard Hall.It looks like Hall is a bad boy. He is a former U. S. Marine who did a tour of duty in Afghanistan. He helped the Titans rank high in 2008, and he is still on the roster. He seems to be an expert at taking care of players like Chris Johnson. The Oakland Raiders need to toughen up if this man is an example of the bad ...
Al Davis, Tom Cable, and the Oakland Raiders have made their choices and the roster cuts are complete. Some cuts were expected, some were surprises, and some don't make any sense at all.Let's just say, I was worried when I saw the initial cuts, but after seeing the practice squad list, I'm as excited about the upcoming regular season as I was on Friday evening. The team kept more players at some positions than I expected, and less at others. There are seven wide receivers, only two tight ends, and just one fullback on the roster. This puzzles me.The good? The ...
The buzz lately has swirled around the Oakland Raiders and whether the NFL club should acquire newly released veterans such as wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh and fullback Tony Richardson.
Other intriguing names include tailback Willie Parker, center Justin Hartwig, offensive tackle Kirk Chambers, and nose tackle Jay Alford.
ESPN has also circulated a report by Adam Schefter about interest in released quarterback Matt Leinart, including interest by the Raiders—a report denied by the Raiders.
I would like to see the Raiders sign both Houshmandzadeh and Richardson.
Even though Houshmandzadeh can't run, he can catch. Since 2004, The Housh has always produced more than ...
After a long eight months, the new NFL season is here. The Oakland Raiders had a busy eight months as they made massive changes to the structure of the team.
On defense, there are changes at every position. The Raiders have a new set of starting linebackers, new defensive linemen, and a new starting corner opposite Nnamdi Asomugha.
The D-line has moved Richard Seymour to the inside and put Jay Richardson on the IR after he was waived. The new ends will be second year Matt Shaugnessy and second-round rookie Lamarr Houston. Tommy Kelly is the only starter from last year to ...
