With the regular season now less than two weeks away, Fantasy Football fanatics all across this pigskin-crazed nation will settle into their recliners and study strength of schedules, performance on turf and average yards per carry on Thursday night games played outdoors in inclement weather. Countless hours are spent predicting the outcomes of individual player performance in order to assemble this year’s winning team in the Lower Middleburough Over 40 Fantasy Football League!  And with that spirit of divination in mind we launch into a look the 2012 Oakland Raider season.  Using our keen insight and uncanny predictive abilities we ...
Oakland fans, we are getting to the business side of the preseason, when we will have to be cutting the roster down to 53.Over this time, fans grow a certain liking to certain players, but you cannot keep everyone in the NFL. In this article, I'll go over the five players I think will be the hardest to cut from the team.  Marquette KingAn undrafted free agent out of Fort Valley State, King has shown that even if you're from a small school, you can still have a big-time leg.King has great hang time on his punts, and he can get the ball down the field with his leg, but he needs to work on his consistency in the NFL. And with Shane Lechler—arguably the best punter in the NFL—on the squad, it will be very hard for King to make the team.  Lonyae MillerA running back from Fresno State, Lonyae Miller has started to show he has some ability to be a reliable backup running back, really improving against the Cardinals last weekend after coming up short in the first preseason game. However, Miller could be cut to make room for another back. What makes it tough is that he has been there all preseason with the team and knows the offense already. Will bringing in another player be the smartest decision, or will the ...
Although the preseason still has a week to go, I think we have seen enough to make some judgments about certain aspects of the Oakland Raiders, with the first roster cuts coming Monday afternoon. What has gone well the first three games?Reggie McKenzie was perhaps the most important offseason addition by the Raiders because he is the first man to control the football aspect of the Raiders since the Al Davis era of 1963-2011.McKenzie is known to have an eye for finding the best players in the NFL draft and the best undrafted free agents.  With guys like Rod Streater, Juron Criner and ...
When an NFL player rises above adversity as Terrelle Pryor has done since the death of his father, a mentor, and the owner of his team, Al Davis, we see the strength and passion that can be spurred by difficult times.A victory in the third preseason game of the Oakland Raiders was urgently needed. The New Era of Excellence needed to be confirmed by a show of determination and passion in a 2012 preseason game, especially after two consecutive losses in Week 1 and 2.The speed of Terrelle Pryor was impressive. As you know, Al Davis loved speed in a ...
After being shut out in their first preseason game by the Dallas Cowboys, the Oakland Raiders have put up 58 points in their last two contests.A big reason for these offensive explosions have been because of their two rookie receivers.Rod Streater continued his impressive preseason with five more catches against the Detroit Lions, giving him a total of 18 receptions in three games.Fellow rookie receiver Juron Criner only had two catches but both were monster touchdowns. The rookie used his big frame to catch a 39-yard bomb as well as a 76-yard strike, both from backup QB Terrelle Pryor.Oakland has ...
The Oakland Raiders compiled over 500 yards of offense en route to a 31-20 preseason victory over the visiting Detroit Lions. Terrelle Pryor took over at quarterback in the third quarter and orchestrated three straight touchdown drives that included a 17-yard scramble for a touchdown and two long touchdown passes to rookie receiver Juron Criner. Pryor powered the offense and looked like a man among boys against the Lions No. 2 defense, but fans should temper their expectations and any talk of Pryor overtaking Matt Leinart as Oakland's No. 2 quarterback. The performance of the defense and the rookie receivers is what should have ...
Oakland's Tyson Ross took a trip to St. Petersburg to get the unexpected start against Tampa Bay, replacing the suspended Bartolo Colon. His trip to Florida was one to forget, as he surrendered five earned runs in six innings, taking the 5-0 loss. Ross’ career with the A’s has been lackluster to say the least. His 2-9 overall record this season speaks for itself, and his tires can attest to the many miles driven to and from Sacramento throughout his career with Oakland. The A’s sent Ross back down to Triple-A—only this time he will take on the role of relief ...
Professional sports teams in the Bay Area have combined for a whopping 14 championships. This region is by far one of the most successful in the sports world. There is a combination of small markets and large markets. Some of the most relaxed and reserved fans find ways to mingle with some of the most passionate. It is, by all accounts, the United Nations of the sports world and this doesn't change on the football field either. The Bay Area has come up with some of the greatest athletes to ever wear a uniform, but this region has also fielded some of ...
The Oakland Athletics watched their starting ace prematurely empty his locker at the hands of the joint drug program earlier this week for the illegal use of testosterone just two days shy of his scheduled start against the scolding-hot Tampa Bay Rays. Bartolo Colon’s untimely 50-game suspension for PED use rattled Bob Melvin’s fragile dynamic that has managed to land the Athletics a surprising potential postseason appearance for the first time since 2006. It would be easy to condemn the Athletics’ playoff run amid Colon’s departure—but the resilient 2012 A’s don’t take kindly to being written off. Please refer to ...
At the halfway point of the Oakland Raiders' 2012 NFL preseason, the team is currently sitting at a record of 0-2, with a handful of fans already about to throw in the towel.Of course, most of us realize when it comes to preseason, the number of wins and losses really don't have much effect on the outcome of the regular season.In 2009, the Cardinals lost every preseason game, but they ended their regular season at 10-6. In 2005, the Colts lost all their preseason games, but went on to a 14-2 regular season record. And in 2010, the Bears were 0-4 in preseason ...
