Trading for Carson Palmer midway through last season was a bold move for the Oakland Raiders, to say the least.   The Raiders gave up a 2012 first-round draft pick and 2013 second-rounder to get a 32-year-old quarterback who was more or less retired from professional football. Although the jury is still out on whether or not the trade was beneficial for the team, fans of the Oakland Raiders should put the utmost faith in Carson Palmer heading into the coming season. Let me make a comparison: you are lost in the woods with little hope for survival.  An unknown ...
About a month ago, the idea of Brandon Inge being an offensive force would be a punchline to some twisted joke. The 12th-year third baseman was released on April 26th after posting a .100 batting average with the Detroit Tigers. Three days later, the Athletics picked up Inge, who was expected to provide consistent defense on the left side of its porous infield and more than contribute with his bat. Surprisingly, it was Oakland's pathetic offense that was Inge-cted with some life by the 35-year-old veteran. In his first 11 games with Oakland, Inge knocked in a staggering 17 runs ...
The Oakland A's are in desperate need for some offensive help and they might be a bit closer to getting their main power threat back in Yoenis Cespedes. Not only might they activate Cespedes but they are also considering bringing Manny Ramirez up over the weekend. It would be a couple days after he is eligible, but it still might be a positive for the A's.John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reported the news:   Quite possible Cespedes and Manny could be activated for series in KC next weekend. #Athletics— John Shea (@JohnSheaHey) May 27, 2012  The move with the most impact will be ...
The Oakland A's have been struggling since losing Yoenis Cespedes to the disabled list and were hoping that Manny Ramirez would be able to provide some offensive pop to their lineup. That plan appears to be on hold for now.Ramirez, who is eligible to return to the A's on Wednesday, does not appear to be ready to join the big league ballclub yet. The A's manager feels the same way, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle: Melvin seems to think Manny won't join A's Wednesday unless he drives a couple of balls in next couple of days.— John Shea (@JohnSheaHey) ...
The Oakland Raiders' offense is looking especially strong for 2012. In 2011, with so many of the players going down with injuries, the Silver and Black's new regime headed up by Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen, hope to make improvements in injury prevention and decrease the chances of losing so many players in 2012.Strength coaches may be highly underrated in the NFL. They play a key role in keeping the players healthy. Injury prevention and quick recovery times are essential in order for the team to get back to a winning record.Al Miller, member of the inaugural USA Strength ...
Which rookie will turn out to be the star in 2012? While it's too early to predict who, if any, will be extraordinary this year, I do believe that we truly are on the brink of a new and winning era for the Oakland Raiders. While the passing of the Raiders' late owner Al Davis was certainly a huge loss to the entire world of football and especially to the Silver and Black, the new year brings a new head coach in Dennis Allen, and a new general manager in Reggie McKenzie, and I have faith that they will take the Raider ...
Following a disappointing series against the Los Angeles Angels in which the Oakland Athletics only managed to score a total of three runs and were held to just 10 hits in the three-game series, the A's need to address their struggling offense. Is a call-up for Chris Carter in order? The A's are currently hanging on to second place in the American League West, a position they were not expected to be in at the beginning of the season. The fact that they are managing to compete, while scoring the fewest runs and having the worst ...
The Raiders' salary cap situation forced general manager Reggie McKenzie to release a few solid players this offseason. Notable players the Raiders had to let go because of the salary cap: Kamerion Wimbley and Stanford Routt. It's difficult to improve when two productive veteran players are released, particularly when both players help defend against the pass and the NFL continues to favor the passing game. Despite the challenges, McKenzie has improved the roster just not with big names or at the positions that grab a lot of attention.Begin Slideshow
The lack of offense in Wednesday afternoon’s tilt between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels made the game one part boring and one part pathetic, turning some A’s fans into apathetic spectators. One day removed from being one-hit by C.J. Wilson and the Angels, the Athletics mustered up a whopping three base hits on Wednesday’s matinee, scoring one run along the way. During the three-game series, the A’s scored three total runs and collected 10 hits. How excitizzzzzzz… The Athletics’ offensive woes are not a brand-new storyline. Oakland currently ranks last in the American League in runs scored, ...
