We are inches away from football season again! We now have a clearer picture of what the new C.B.A. will be and it looks good for the Raiders. The Raiders will actually be in the running for Nnamdi Asomugha because "dead money" won't count toward the salary cap. On NFL Network, Jason LaCanfora said, "Teams will have to spend at least 90 percent of the cap in cash and won't be able to play with dead money as they have in the past." So that leaves the Raiders at $103.2 million in players' salaries as of now. The salary cap is set at ...
In case you haven't noticed, there has been a huge debate lately over what the Oakland Athletics should do prior to the July 31st MLB trade deadline. There has been speculation on every player under the sun.  Should the A's dump this guy or that guy?  Josh Willingham is always a topic for discussion.  Coco Crisp's name has come up, along with Gio Gonzalez, Andrew Bailey and many more. I'm in favor of the A's doing nothing significant by the deadline. Although when I was assigned this story I thought, "Wow, this is actually an idea I am on board with." If the A's have ...
Perhaps the two most underrated moves of the last two seasons for the Oakland A's involve the same player now destroying minor league pitching in Triple-A Sacramento.Jai Miller, the fourth round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in 2003, joined the Oakland Athletics organization after being claimed off waivers from the Marlins on April 8, 2010.The A's designated Miller for assignment after just 10 games with the River Cats, where he batted just .118 in 37 plate appearances. He was claimed by the Kansas City Royals and played 84 games for their Triple-A affiliate in Omaha.Miller batted .267 with 18 homers ...
It is time to have a look at the best free agents that every team in the NFL has to offer. With the lockout drawing to a dramatic close, one of the most frantic free-agency periods in NFL history is just around the corner.Teams are going to have to make tough decisions on who to re-sign, who to let walk and who to pursue.Guys like Santonio Holmes and Nnamdi Asomugha are likely to receive huge offers from other clubs and leave, while others may even take pay cuts to stay. Fans out there will inevitably be heartbroken since not every team ...
Jemile Weeks, 2B Oakland Athletics ( 20 percent owned in Yahoo, 33.8 percent in ESPN)Current Stat Line: .315 AVG / 18 R / 0 HR / 13 RBI / 10 SBWeeks has been a terror at the top of the order for the A's recently. In the past seven games he has hit .444/4/0/5/3 and he seems to be firmly planted in the leadoff spot.He makes good contact (88.2 percent), and he doesn't swing at a overwhelming amount of pitches outside of the strike zone (29.7 percent). He should be a sneaky source of runs, batting average and stolen bases ...

The Athletics are at the bottom of the AL West and must make moves for next season.Josh Willingham is one of many players they will probably trade soon. It comes as no surprise that Athletics' names are starting to pop up in trade rumors.Expectations are that Josh Willingham, Coco Crisp, David DeJesus, Hideki Matsui, Michael Wuertz and perhaps Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes will at least be shopped before the deadline. What did come as a surprise, though, was Andrew Bailey's name popping up on MLBTraderumors.com yesterday.Let's quickly explore a few of the A's players that have been rumored to perhaps be available in the coming weeks. Check back as this thread will be updated as information about any potential trades becomes available.Read more Oakland Athletics news on BleacherReport.com
Recently, I read a very well-written article on the lockout and the issues that relate to retired NFL players before 1993. I agree with Ms. Spencer's perspective, and I responded in the comment strand.  I wrote: "I am inspired by your work and perspective on this issue. I also hope that if the legacy fund is established that some type of regulatory procedure is set up to make certain that the funds actually go to the former players and benefit the former players. Some of them have guardians and power of attorneys who have not been totally accountable to the ...
Talk all offseason from so-called "NFL experts" has pictured the Oakland Raiders to be in a terrible position once the NFL lockout ends.According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the Raiders could be in cap trouble when free agency starts. They may be unable to re-sign key free agents like Zach Miller and Nnamdi Asomugha, supposedly due to a lack of funds. The Raiders committed a plethora of cash to free-agents Stanford Routt, Richard Seymour, John Henderson, Hiram Eugene, Rock Cartwright and others before the lockout. So, the experts theorize, the Raiders are in trouble.I debunked that myth here. But if the math of a ...
The 2011 Oakland A’s are at a very pivotal crossroads halfway through the season. The deficiencies are obvious, and the problems are many. At the half-way point of the 2011 season, the A’s own a disappointing 39-53 record, 12.5 games behind AL West leader Texas. And to add insult to injury, they are currently riding a four-game losing streak and are quickly sinking—not only in the rankings, but also farther and farther from the playoff picture. The first and most basic question is, Why?The simple and most obvious answer would be the lack of star power and offensive weapons. Prior to ...
