Oakland's starting pitching has been everything that was promised to us in the offseason and more. The league's best pitching staff has given the A's a chance to win almost every game they have played so far this season; the culprit of the losing ways has been the team's offense. The new acquisitions (David DeJesus, Josh Willingham and Hideki Matsui) have been inconsistent, as have the returning starters. Coco Crisp represents the hottest A's hitter, and he is batting just .281. Pitching depth and a number of young prospects that would be appealing to other teams in a trade give the ...
Yes, I have been reading articles about the lockout. Surely, some folks are uneasy with the process of getting clarity and equity in the affairs of the NFL. One thing that must be emphasized is that the players are still accountable for their personal conduct during offseason. If violations occur, they are still subject to penalties or fines. So, the NFL players and our beloved Oakland Raiders are locked in to a code of ethics and behavior that must be adhered to. Now, so much depends on the successful negotiations during this lockout. So, in anticipation of the outcome of the NFL ...
The Oakland Raiders were the No. 2 ranked pass defense in the NFL in 2011 with two corners tied for third in burn percentage. Add to that the fact that former first round safety Michael Huff showed signs of getting it. But now, Raider Nation is in a state of panic because All Pro corner Nnamdi Asomugha and Huff are free agents. But there is no need to worry because they will have the top ranked secondary in the NFL regardless. Turn the page to see why there is little to worry about.Begin Slideshow
It pretty much goes without saying at this point that if Oakland wants to compete in the American League West this season a trade will need to be made to help boost their bipolar offense. Despite back-to-back wins to close out the weekend series with the Seattle Mariners, the offense has remained inconsistent and at times incapable of scoring runs. Plenty of names come up as possible trade targets to bolster the lineup: David Wright, Prince Fielder, Ryan Zimmerman and Corey Hart are among those that could potentially be available. Regardless of how realistic any of those particular players may be to an ...
The A's finished a six game week with a 3-3 record. That was a surprising twist, considering how the A's offense struggled against the Mariners on Thursday and Friday. The first game of the two game series with the Red Sox began with a dominating eight innings from Brett Anderson. He allowed no runs, four hits and recorded eight strikeouts in eight innings. The A's offense struggled until the bottom of the eighth where they scored four times off of the Red Sox bullpen en route to a 5-0 victory. Gio Gonzalez struggled in the second matchup with the Sox, as he was ...
With the NFL draft quickly approaching fans are busy speculating what their team will do in the draft. Here in Raider-Nation a common theme among Raider fans is expecting them to draft for need, I mean that is the smart thing to do.Being a life long Raider fan though, I feel expecting the Raiders to make a smart, safe and logical decision two years in a row is futile at best.In recent interviews Hue Jackson has thrown around the term "Best Player Available" a few times. With that said don't be surprised if the Raiders use their first pick on a luxury ...
In recent weeks, the Oakland Raiders have hinted at "evolving" to a 3-4 defense, but if that's the plan, why are they reassembling the personnel responsible for the 4-3 defense from the early 2000's?  Shortly after the end of the 2010 season we saw the return of defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, who was in charge of the defense from 2000-2003, followed shortly by the hirings of ex-Raiders Greg Biekert and Rod Woodson, both of whom played under Bresnahan, now in the roles of linebacker and defensive backs coaches, respectively.  Undeniably, those guys got very respectable results in Oakland from 2000-2003, ...
In order to rise up, a team or person has to fall down. Getting up again is the joy in the life of some folks. On this Sunday, millions are remembering the event that opened the door for all who believe to rise above circumstances often imposed on us by our own volition, to chose good or the negation of good. As I tell my students, if there is a proposition p, then there is always a ~p, which stands for the negation of p.  There are many retired NFL players who have taken hold of their retirement years and have risen above some very powerful ...
The Oakland Raiders have such a fine reputation for giving a gifted player a chance to demonstrate his worth that one fan wants Vince Young to join the team.Longhorn Fan says, "Al Davis, Vince Young is your man." He continues,"Oakland is just the environment to allow Vince to play at his highest level.  If he were in a place like Oakland, with a good offensive-minded coach like Hue Jackson, then the Raiders would benefit greatly."Also, Longhorn Fan notes that the Tennessee Titans did not make full use Young's gifts. The reason why he says this is because on numerous occasions Jeff Fischer ...
The 2011 NFL Draft is less than a week away and everyone in Raider Nation is speculating as to who will be the next Oakland Raider.Oakland doesn't hold a first-round draft pick, so their first selection will be at No. 48 on day two of the draft. The Raiders are a team that surprisingly doesn't have many needs. It has young players on both sides of the ball who are expected to develop. However, Oakland does have an atrocious offensive line. Expect the Raiders to focus on that during the draft. Also with Nnamdi Asomugha an impending free agent, the Raiders could ...
