AL East 1. Boston Red Sox 98-64 They added Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez in the flashy moves. Added Bobby Jenks and Dan Wheeler in the lesser, but still important depth moves. Lackey still concerns me, and Beckett is an every-other-year-pitcher. I don't think they have the starting pitching depth, but their offense will mask many of their problems, like high ERA's for Beckett and Matzusaka. Simply the best of the rest but I'm not 100% impressed. 2. *Toronto Blue Jays 92-70 Why so high on them? After trading stellar No. 4 pitcher, Shaun Marcum, for the Brewers former No. 1 pick ...
The National Football League’s 32 owners voted Tuesday to move kickoffs up five yards to the 35 yard line. Meanwhile, touchbacks will be kept at the 20 yard line. All of the league’s prominent kick returners have voiced their displeasure about the move. This new rule change has also stirred the emotions of organizations that have invested millions of dollars into game changing athletes in the return game. However, contrary to popular belief, this rule change does not alter the overall landscape of the game. Even the thought that many have tossed out about the “new change” and suggesting to ...
As the NFL Draft approaches Oakland Raider fans will have to sit and watch many mock drafts without the Raiders included. Normally, the mock drafts focus on the first round and the Raiders are without a first-round pick. The first couple of rounds are where you most of the hype comes from. They have even moved the draft into primetime and it is starting to look a lot more like the Oscars than the NFL drafts of years past.Despite all the flash and hype of the first couple of rounds there are still some great players that are found in the ...
Good week here Raider Nation.I somehow have a renewed feeling of confidence and faith in Al Davis, Hue Jackson, Jason Campbell and the whole Oakland Raider squad for the 2011 NFL season.Really, what's not to like? But seriously, this isn't one of my motivational articles where I somehow make a loss seem like a lopsided victory, so let me cut to the chase. Most of you have probably noticed (hopefully, because if not, that means I'm not doing my job) these past two weeks I've been publishing articles answering questions I think need to be ...
The Raiders' 2010 season was their best since 2002. It was their first six or more win season since making their last playoff appearance. They entered the offseason with a great deal of unbridled optimism looking towards 2011.Al Davis responded to expectations by offering contracts to Michael Bush, Zach Miller and Kamerion Wimbley and Stanford Routt, among others, and the current lockout hasn't really helped with offseason transactions.Though these contracts have been tendered, they are on hold until the NFL figures out when—and if—the 2011 NFL is actually going to happen. In order to analyze the upcoming draft and the ...
Despite the far more important issue of whether there will be football next year, the NFL has instead decided to put their focus on making some ridiculous rule change suggestions for the next football season.  No rule changes are more ludicrous than the one regarding kickoffs being moved up to the 35 yard line and touchbacks moved up to the 25 yard line. The NFL says that this rule is due to “safety concerns,” yet the only thing this rule is bound to do is to make kickoffs some of the most boring plays instead of the exciting ones, which some ...
It wasn't too long ago that the Oakland Raiders defeated the Denver Broncos, 59-14, in an astonishing blowout that left the Denver stadium filled with crying fans. It was a great game for the trillions of Oakland Raiders fans around the globe. The Oakland Raiders set a historic record for both franchises, but this article is actually going back to a WR who played well for the Oakland Raiders and his name is Jerry Porter. There are many fans in the Raider Nation divided on the ethics of Jerry Porter; however, for this writer, he was a good WR and ...
Tribute in 2011 Youth is a blessing. Senior years are good, too. The advantage of our senior years is that we can sit, sip our coffee and remember both the good and hard times of the Oakland Raiders.  On this day in 2011, we also remember the contributions of others. After all, in times like these we get relief from viewing sports, especially NFL games once the season starts. Hum, if the season starts on time this year. I don't know about you, but with the international situation increasing in complexity, watching an Oakland Raiders game will be uplifting if they can be more victorious in 2011. The seniors ...
As we just passed the two-year mark since commissioner Bud Selig launched his "Blue-Ribbon" committee to determine if the Athletics would be granted permission to move to San Jose, I decided I wanted to look back at the failed attempts to stay in Oakland. It was during this search I ran across an interesting blog post on baseballoakland.com that made me aware of some interesting articles written by the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury news that I had previously forgotten about. The revelation of those articles and the quotes that were hidden within their writing tell an interesting story ...
Month after month, articles are published all over the web detailing the Oakland Raiders draft busts. Seriously, it gets old. We in Raider Nation constantly hear about JaMarcus Russell, Todd Marinovich, and even Robert Gallery. There's actually an article on the Oakland Raiders homepage naming 10 Raider busts. A couple of weeks ago, there was a piece of work virtually identical on the page. But are Al Davis and the Raiders really that bad at drafting? Not at all. Listen, it's really just a cliche that Oakland constantly drafts busts. My thing is that for every bust the Raiders draft, there is a pro-bowl caliber ...
