Both Bay Area NFL teams clung to their last hopes today to make the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers needed to beat the St. Louis Rams, and the Oakland Raiders needed a Kansas City Chiefs' loss.Neither turned out well. The 49ers lost, 25-17, at St. Louis, and the Chiefs beat the Tennessee Titans, 34-14, destroying any hope of a Bay Area NFL team making the postseason. However, both the 49ers and the Raiders have to be proud of themselves for what they accomplished this season. Despite undergoing quarterback controversy and high tensions between the head coach and his players, the ...
It is safe to say, that Jason Campbell did not start off on the right foot in 2010. His performances were sporadic to say the least. In Week 1, Campbell looked nervous and unease at the quarterback position. In Week 2, he looked like a quarterback that was trying too hard to prove himself in front of a home crowd. Keep in mind, that he had a rookie left tackle playing out of position at center in Jared Veldheer, and probably one of the worst left tackles in the National Football League in Mario Henderson (yes, I am a Raider ...
Right now the Oakland athletics are trying to establish a core of a winning team. They have already given two players multi-year contracts: Brett Anderson and Kurt Suzuki. Although they still have some cheap young players who haven't hit arbitration, I think they should continue to create a young core and give some players long contracts.A team like the A's, a team with not too much cash, has to lock up franchise players early. They need to do a better job at that, as the last time the A's made the playoffs was 2006, and they have exactly two players ...
Here we are entering the 16th week of the NFL season and the Oakland Raiders are still alive in the race for the AFC West crown and a playoff berth.  At 7-7, the Raiders need the Chargers to lose one of their final two games.  The Titans also have to beat the Chiefs on Sunday morning for the Raiders to remain alive. It feels good that the Raiders are playing for something at this point in the season.  The fact that we are still in the hunt for a playoff spot says that these are not the same old Raiders.  But even though we ...
Good morning and happy holidays. When we think of all the good things and all of the accomplishments of 2010, we can truly call 2010 a year that represents a forerunner of good things to come. For the Oakland Raiders, it was the year of new beginnings. New records were set within the franchise. Let's at least be grateful for the progress that has been made. The range of potential and possibilities was certainly demonstrated when the Oakland Raiders managed to score 59 points in one game against the Broncos. When that 79-yard touchdown was made, it demonstrated another level of potential.Once the Raiders defeated ...
Now, after spitting coffee all over the monitor (or Eggnog), let me state something simple. No, I don't imagine Jason Campbell is going to be an awesome QB that will lead the Raiders to several playoff berths in quick fashion, or lose 16 games in seven seasons. What it relates to, is that when Daryle Lamonica came to the Raiders, he wasn't exactly treated kindly by the fans out there. For those of you who have no idea who Lamonica was, here's a quick recap. Lamonica started out with the Buffalo Bills, after getting drafted by both the Green Bay Packers and ...
It's been tough to be a Raider fan the last seven years. Living in Evansville, Indiana, in the heart of Colts country, hasn't made it any easier. When the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984, residents of my area had a choice to make: support the new local team and abandon the team they had previously supported, or remain a fan of their present team. Being a Raider fan, for me the choice was easy. As long as there was a horseshoe on the helmet, they were still the Colts and I still disliked them. Not to mention the fact the Raiders ...
The Indianapolis Colts were successful in shutting down one of the NFL’s better rushing attacks last week, avoiding playoff elimination, and will look to do the same in their quest to cement a postseason berth with a win over the surging Oakland Raiders on the road this Sunday. Our NFL odds have the Colts as three-point favorites in this one with an over/under set at 47 points. Indianapolis stopped Maurice Jones-Drew, holding him to just 46 yards as they beat Jacksonville 34-24 on Sunday to forge a tie atop the South with the Jaguars, who would ...
We all know the big names in Oakland, Seymour, Nnamdi, McFadden etc. But this slide is for the guys who do their job every Sunday, but still get no pub. The glue guys, the dirty workers, the surprises for 2010. These players have help make the season worth watching, a Christmas Gift for the Other Guys.  Begin Slideshow
The Raiders head into this weekend's contest with Indianapolis in a familiar must-win position. Every game from here on out represents an elimination game for the Raiders, and even if they beat the Colts there is no guarantee of a playoff spot. The Raiders are currently 5-0 in their division, but their overall record is only 7-7. While obviously able to take care of business in their own neighborhood, the Raiders have been lost when straying outside the suddenly friendly confines of the AFC West.In order for the Raiders to make the playoffs, the following has to happen:They must beat the ...
