This year, Raider-Nation has been flying high on optimism and hope. There have been alot of positive things to give Raider fans hope. Last year, under Head Coach Tom Cable, the Raiders looked like a team for the first time in years. They showed great improvement over the last six games going 3-3 to finish the season with 2 back-to-back wins over playoff hopeful teams in Denver, Houston, and Tampa Bay. This off-season, the Raiders brought in a good deal of free-agent talent, bolstering the o-line and adding veteran leadership. Their receiving core is finally looking like a quality unit, and Chaz ...
Talk about a big quarterback. Fellow Raider Jeff Garcia called him "the biggest one I've ever seen." JaMarcus Russell is listed at 6'6" and 260 pounds. In reality, he is probably like 270-275, but he is on the hush regarding his weight. It's not a beer belly; he is an athlete. It's just the way his momma raised him—around these parts, we call it the cornbread diet. Shaun Phillips, the San Diego Chargers linebacker, tried to pull him down last year in this picture and got nothing but a large portion of JaMarcus' jersey. JaMarcus has been on point this week in practice, prompting ...
After 2 pre season games the Oakland Raiders are trying to firgure out there final 53, with only two more games left, one vs New Orleans Saints and a road game at the Seattle Seahawks. This will be the last chance for certain players, let's look at what players are on the bubble. These players MUST have great games. I would like you to vote on who you think will win each battle, and also your take on players who are on the bubble.   QB: Charlie Fyre, Bruce Gradkowski The battle between these two guys have been even, both have had limited success, while both have thrown interceptions and ...
In case you haven't noticed, the Oakland Athletics are on pace to have their third consecutive sub .500 season. Since they were eliminated from the ALCS in 2006, the Athletics have been unable to capture their previous glory, despite the supposed genius of GM Billy Beane. For years, Beane was thought of as the premier GM in baseball. He took a struggling, small market franchise and transformed them into a perennial powerhouse led by emerging young stars. Beane was a master at getting the most out of his limited payroll, in large part because of his "moneyball" approach, which valued OBP ...
Continuing what I began a few days ago in looking at possible pitching callups for the A's, I'm taking a look at infielders who could get a big league look come roster expansion on Sept. 1. As with the pitching article, I'll briefly look at each player and then state whether I think he will get called up and whether he should get called up. Keep in mind that those are two very different things. Yung-Chi Chen: Chen, a former Mariners prospect, has hit .318/.383/.426 across three levels this year in 49 games. He has the versatility to play anywhere on the ...
Through two preseason games the Raiders have been a mixed bag.  The first game against Dallas highlighted the potential of the Silver and Black while the Battle of the Bay saw the team seemingly revert to past years’ form.  Still, the preseason revealed some surprises, giving the Raider Nation alternating hope and pessimism. Nothing has given the Raiders more hope than the emergence of Chaz Schilens as a number one wideout.  Throughout training camp and in the game against Dallas, Schilens proved he can play the game.  Drafted in the seventh round in 2008, Schilens has quietly developed into a consistent pass ...
The Tigers have won 67 games this season, but two of the biggest wins have been the past two days out on the West Coast.  Detroit came into this three game series with the Los Angeles Angels, having lost two of three to the lowly Oakland Athletics. The Tigers struggled to put runs on the board against Oakland's shaky pitching staff and the offense was even worse. Who saw a turn around coming as the competition got stiffer? Detroit has taken the first two games against the Angels in pretty impressive fashion. Justin Verlander and Jarrod Washburn were both rough around the edges, ...
To the untrained eye, Oakland A’s games are loads of fun. You’ve got Stomper the Mascot, the famous “Dot Racing” and the great game-day giveaways. However, it's easy for the trained eye to pull the blankets off the bed and find the makings of a smooth criminal. Going into the 2009 season, Oakland was supposed to challenge the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the AL West title. The acquisitions of Matt Holliday, Jason Giambi, Orlando Cabrera and Nomar Garciaparra were supposed to make people forget about how young and inexperienced the pitching staff was. The Oakland faithful saw Billy Beane ...
Sometimes repeated nature can be good for learning. Oakland, which has been slowly building back after the 2006 crash, has been assembling pieces for a team. A draft pick here, a free agent there, sometimes a step back when things don't work right...it's all supposed to lead to progress. For Oakland, it has seen the win total go from two to four to five, with differing opinions on the season. Some think the Raiders are heading for three wins, some to 8-8, or some a playoff berth. One item that is worth looking at is how the offense will become the drive this ...
How many people want to see more Chris Johnson?!? You, you, you, and me too! This guy is going to be awesome this year. He played great in the 49ers game. We will really get a chance to see his skill set in week three preseason action, the game where the starters are likely to get the most reps. We should be able to see if Johnson really has what it takes against Drew Brees and that potent New Orleans Saints passing attack. I can say he does at this point, but I of all people know that my mind can change in a ...
