Strike another blow for Twitter as the definitive source for breaking football news. Today, running back Mike Goodson showed up to tell his followers that he had been traded to the Oakland Raiders

Less than an hour later, the Panthers confirmed the trade on Twitter and passed along the compensation:

Goodson and Campbell are both excellent physical talents. Campbell had a ridiculous combine in 2010, and Goodson’s all-around numbers in 2009 were also very impressive. New Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie did a great job to plug the hole at backup running back created by the departure of Michael Bush without giving up any of the precious few picks the Raiders have.

The Panthers were forced to start undrafted rookie Byron Bell at right tackle last year when Jeff Otah was out. Campbell could be an upgrade in depth at the position. What are the salient draft outcomes of this draft?

Carolina and Oakland create depth at positions with injury-prone starters without giving up picks

The shortage of picks for the Raiders has been well publicized, but Carolina is also without a third-round pick because of the Greg Olsen trade. Darren McFadden and Jeff Otah are among the tops in the game when healthy, but both have had trouble doing that lately.

Running backs could fall even farther on the draft’s third day

Every year the running back class as a whole drops further in the draft than we forecast, and another team addressing the position before the draft will only increase that trend. The free-agent market has been cold for running backs, and that lowered absolute positional value could dictate some third-day or undrafted free-agent steals at RB yet again. Which in turn encourages teams to wait longer on running backs in a self-perpetuating cycle.
