Who is Erinoak?
Erinoak is Ontario's largest not-for-profit, fully accredited Children's Treatment Centre offering habilitation, rehabilitation and support services to children with physical, developmental and communication disabilities. Serving more than 8,000 children and young people in over 900 community settings annually, Erinoak has a 35-year history of helping young people reach optimal levels of independence, health and well-being.
Erinoak applies a consultative, family-centred approach to client care. All service plans are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and are based on ongoing consultation and a review of goals with the child's family. Care is provided in a variety of settings, including the home, school, community and at Erinoak facilities. In a recent survey, more than 90% of clients and families rated the overall quality of care and services at Erinoak as excellent / good.
Programs and services include:
- Medical services, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy and ongoing care for children with complex physical disabilities.
- Counseling, education and support group services for families of children with disabilities.
- Assistive devices to enable communication and mobility including electronic and writing aids, power wheelchairs and communication systems.
- Training and education services to support the successful integration of preschoolers with special needs into community nursery schools.
- Speech and language therapy for preschoolers.
- Intensive Behavioural Intervention services for children with autism.
- Tailored training programs for parents of children with autism to expand knowledge, build strategies and support the development of their children.
- Screening, monitoring and communication services to detect hearing loss in newborns, including treatment for those identified as hard of hearing or Deaf.
- Consultation, resource development and training services to educators in 750 schools and 10 school boards to assist in their work with pupils with autism spectrum disorder.
- Training to paediatric residents/fellows, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and professionals working in the field of autism.
