On two weeks' rest in a quasi-home game against a mediocre-despite-its-record opponent, the Oakland Raiders did not play well Monday night in Mexico City. Star wide receiver Amari Cooper had just two catches for 14 yards through three quarters. His fellow starting wideout, Michael Crabtree, produced five yards of offense on seven targets. Top back Latavius Murray had just 33 yards on 12 carries. Raiders receivers dropped several Derek Carr passes, and Carr threw a rotten second-half interception. And yet the Raiders won, 27-20. Believe it or not, that's a good sign. Because in the past, a performance like this would have inevitably ...
Oakland Athletics managing partner and co-owner Lew Wolff is stepping down.  According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Athletics primary owner John Fisher will be taking over Wolff's role. Slusser also reported Wolff will be selling a majority of his stake in the Major League Baseball franchise to the other partners and will be named chairman emeritus.  The A's officially announced the organizational shake-up Thursday. Dave Kaval moves into the role of team president, and Michael Crowley will transition into a senior adviser role.  Kaval said the A's are committed to staying in Oakland, per John Hickey of Bay Area News Group. Kaval said ...
Following a disappointing 2016 campaign, the Oakland Athletics are reportedly willing to listen to offers for starting pitcher Sonny Gray. Continue for updates. Latest on Gray's Future with Athletics Friday, Nov. 11 According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the A's aren't actively shopping Gray but are open to a deal if the right one presents itself. After finishing third in the 2015 American League Cy Young Award voting, Gray experienced a huge drop-off in 2016. The 27-year-old righty went just 5-11 with a 5.69 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 117 innings. He was also limited to 22 starts due to a pair of ...
Remember when Sonny Gray seemed to have one foot in an Oakland A's uniform and one foot on the trading block? Those were interesting times. Now they may be ready for a comeback. No two Major League Baseball offseasons are exactly alike, but a prevailing theme through all of them is the widespread need for starting pitching. In a related story, another prevailing theme are the showers of cash that fall on the best free-agent aces. The 2016-17 offseason, however, presents a conundrum: There are no aces on the open market. Rich Hill is good, but also older and not very durable. After him, ...
The Oakland Raiders shoved the AFC West bully into a cramped locker in front of the world on Sunday. NFL leagues offices decided to match the Raiders with the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos in a prime-time slot. Some analysts predicted a Raiders’ victory, but most didn’t see the Silver and Black dominating a team that’s won the division five consecutive seasons.  The Broncos field one of the best defenses in the league. Even without cornerback Aqib Talib, Denver limited the San Diego Chargers' top-three scoring offense to 19 points last week. However, the Raiders accomplished something no other team has done against ...
It's no longer correct to say the Oakland Raiders are for real. This is obvious. We know this. The sky is blue and there's some sort of election this week. Duh. It's time to look at a bigger picture with the Raiders, much bigger, and two parts of that picture in particular. First, the league is better when the Raiders are good. This is a simple fact. It's a characteristic of the Raider genome that a good Oakland team is swashbuckling and sexy, liable to punch you in the mouth or run by you. The Raiders are fun. The Raiders are important. ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will be a free agent following the 2017 season, though the team will likely offer him a contract extension in the near future. Continue for updates. Raiders Reportedly Will Offer Carr Massive Contract Sunday, Nov. 6 Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reported Sunday that the Raiders are prioritizing a contract extension for Carr this offseason. According to the report, "a league source expects that deal 'to be Luck-ish,' a reference to the five-year, $123 million contract that Andrew Luck signed with Indianapolis last summer."  Carr, 25, has been superb in 2016, throwing for 2,321 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 66.3 percent of his passes. Oakland, in ...
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper was dealing with a back injury. However, it did not cause him to miss any game action.  Continue for updates.  Cooper Active vs. Broncos Sunday, Nov. 6 The Raiders announced Cooper is available to play on Sunday against Denver.  The Raiders had previously listed Cooper as questionable for Week 9. Latest on Cooper's Practice Status Saturday, Nov. 5 The Raiders announced that Cooper was limited in practice for the third day in a row Friday. Raiders Need Cooper Healthy for Playoff Push Cooper largely delivered on expectations in his rookie season. He was far and away the top-performing wideout from the 2015 draft class. He ...
