As the Oakland Athletics head into the most critical stretch of the MLB regular season, they'll be without closer Sean Doolittle for at least a couple of weeks.     According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, the 2014 All-Star is suffering from an intercostal strain and was placed on the disabled list: MLB.com's Jane Lee thinks the closer could miss serious time and added the current timetable for his return: In conjunction with Doolittle's move to the DL, the A's have called up Dan Otero from Triple-A Sacramento, per Jorge L. Ortiz of USA Today: Doolittle was hurt on Saturday night against the ...
The Oakland Raiders traded a sixth-round pick for quarterback Matt Schaub this offseason and immediately named him their starting quarterback. General manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen were hoping they could get Schaub to play for them as he did prior to a disastrous 2013 in Houston. Allen has reiterated all offseason that Schaub is the starter for 2014, and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported this week that Schaub would be starting come Week 1 of the regular season. The Raiders simply haven’t allowed there to be a quarterback controversy. After Friday’s 31-21 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers, ...
Oakland Raiders cornerback Tarell Brown left the team's Week 3 preseason contest against the Green Bay Packers in the second quarter, according to the Raiders' official Twitter account: This comes as bad news for a team that ranked 28th in the league in pass defense a year ago. The Raiders brought in Brown on a one-year deal over the offseason after he spent his first seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Brown is slated to start at cornerback this season opposite Carlos Rogers, according to the team's official depth chart. Last season with the 49ers, Brown accumulated 32 tackles and 10 passes ...

The Oakland Raiders and linebacker Sio Moore found that ...
It took one run, which harked back to 2011, to endear Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew to fantasy owners once more. After eight seasons with Jacksonville, MJD joined Oakland this past offseason to the detest of many owners since his numbers would presumably take a massive nosedive in a backfield that also includes Darren McFadden—hence his average draft position of 7.04, outside of the top 30 at his position. MJD flipped that thought process on its head in Oakland's preseason Week 3 contest against Green Bay. Taking the snaps with the first-team offense in the first quarter, MJD gained 45 yards and ...
Rosters expand September 1, and although any minor leaguer who gets called up to the Oakland A's likely won't see too much playing time, certain guys may still have an impact. Typically, rebuilding teams use September to see what the kids can do. Oakland, however, is smack in the middle of a playoff hunt. With the current 25-man roster as is, the team's call-ups ideally will be pinch hitters and runners, late-inning defensive replacements and depth. With such a heated battle for the AL West crown taking place, the A's can't afford to lose a starter to injury without a viable replacement. So ...
After two preseason games, the Oakland Raiders have begun to establish an identity. The problem is that this identity has left the team with more questions than answers. Oakland has gone 1-1 through its first two preseason games, but the team's performance hasn't exhibited the improvement that was expected given all of the offseason additions. There have been some signs of what this team could be, but the performance has been disappointing overall. Heading into Week 3 of the preseason, several veterans on the roster have a lot to prove. Matt Schaub was brought in to provide the leadership and reliability the offense ...
Jason Hammel was having a career year for the Chicago Cubs when he was traded to the Oakland Athletics on July 5. He's been a completely different pitcher since then, raising questions about whether the A's should be looking for another pitcher to round out their top-tier starting rotation. General manager Billy Beane gutted the farm to get Jeff Samardzija and Hammel, who was 7-5 with a 2.98 ERA at the time of the trade. He's 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA since coming to Oakland, with only 32 innings pitched over seven starts. Another trade for Jon Lester forced Jesse Chavez, who ...
If you're willing to take the leap of faith, Maurice Jones-Drew could potentially be poised for a nice comeback season. Between age, injuries and ineffectiveness, MJD has gone from stud to outcast. According to ESPN.com, he's getting drafted around the 92nd overall pick, which makes him on average the 31st running back selected. Most owners are generally skeptical about Oakland Raiders running backs, with Darren McFadden listed as the 40th running back in average draft position. With McFadden, you can understand the distrust. How many owners have been burned by reading or hearing that this was the year that the former Arkansas ...
