With Carson Palmer appearing to be on the way out, the Oakland Raiders have been connected to two replacements so far—Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Matt Flynn, and free agent Kevin Kolb. Palmer, last year's starter, is unlikely to remain with the Raiders much longer. The Raiders asked him to cut $3 million from the $13 million the team is set to owe him in 2013, but he balked at the offer. According to Yahoo, Palmer would rather be a backup on a winning team than start for the Raiders:The quarterback's decision, according to three sources familiar with Palmer's mindset, is based on a ...
To say that Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer was mediocre at times last season would be extremely fair, but there's absolutely no way the veteran signal-caller is to blame for the Silver and Black's pitiful 4-12 campaign.Even one of the NFL's elite passers would have struggled to make a playoff contender of Oakland in 2012.But according to the NFL Network's Michael Fabiano, via Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are in serious talks to acquire Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Flynn, a move that would instantly make Palmer expendable.Sure, Flynn has tremendous potential and is six years younger than Palmer, but a quarterback ...
Reggie McKenzie and the Oakland Raiders are trying to take a shortcut in the rebuilding process by acquiring Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders have been linked to several quarterbacks (Alex Smith, Geno Smith and Vince Young as well as incumbents Terrelle Pryor and Carson Palmer) throughout the offseason, but the Flynn trade appears to be the most active the Raiders have been.Just a few days after it became apparent that Palmer would not take a $3 million pay cut to stay in Oakland, the Raiders are actively trying to replace him.  I have a few immediate thoughts on ...
The Oakland Raiders may have found their man in Matt Flynn.Flynn's future in Seattle looked all but over with the emergence of Russell Wilson, who led the Seahawks to the playoffs in his rookie season. Flynn had just signed a deal with the team last offseason in the hopes of winning the starting role. That obviously didn't happen, and Seattle is eager to move him. Oakland, in need of a quarterback, is a perfect fit, and according to Albert Breer of NFL Network, an agreement is close to being struck between the two teams:Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reported ...
Today is not a good day for the Terrelle Pryor bandwagon. As CBS Sports is reporting, Oakland is on the verge of acquiring Seattle backup quarterback Matt Flynn for an undetermined draft pick.So what does this mean for Oakland?Well first and foremost, if the trade is completed, Carson Palmer can hang up his silver and black jersey for the last time. After rumors surfaced indicating that Palmer refused to take a $3 million pay cut, Palmer all but sealed his future in Oakland by forcing management to move on without him.Immediately following that bit of news, people assumed that one of ...
What should the Oakland Raiders do with their No. 3 overall draft pick in light of free agency and recent pro days? Such is the focus of my second analysis of how the Raiders should approach the ever-important first round in next month's NFL draft.  As in my first edition, I will explain (1) which players would be poor choices for the team at No. 3, (2) which players would be worth selecting and (3) what trade scenarios the team should pursue.  These recommendations are based on news reports and mock drafts detailing teams' interest in certain prospects, as well as the recently ...
As the end of the 2012 NFL season drew to a close, fanbases across the league eagerly anticipated the uncertainty that the offseason provided. But not in Oakland.Faced with a dire salary cap situation and low on draft picks, this offseason was going to be anything but exciting for Oakland. With multiple big-name players owed massive amounts of money, promising young players wanting more than Oakland could afford and few NFL players wanting anything to do with a cellar-bound Raiders squad, there wasn't much for Oakland fans to look forward to.To make matters worse, the Broncos and the Chiefs did the ...
If you are a Raiders fan, the following numbers are a bit hard to look at, but they are the reality of this team since the year 2002. These are the win-loss records of every regular starting quarterback the team has had since Super Bowl XXXVII:Rich Gannon, 4-6Kerry Collins, 7-21Andrew Walter, 2-7Aaron Brooks, 0-8Josh McCown, 2-7Daunte Culpepper, 2-4JaMarcus Russell, 7-18Bruce Gradkowski, 3-5Jason Campbell, 11-7Carson Palmer, 8-16Ten quarterbacks with at least eight starts for the Oakland Raiders since 2003. One quarterback with a winning record. For all of the commentary made about the Raiders run defense and other ills this team ...
Reggie McKenzie left a stable job as the No. 2 in command with the Green Bay Packers to become the general manager of a franchise needing a fresh start. The Oakland Raiders hadn’t been a winning franchise in a decade, but an 8-8 record in 2011 had fans unrealistically hopeful that the team could take the next step. Criticize McKenzie for the moves he has made, but don’t insult the man’s intelligence. McKenzie knew he was leaving one of the best jobs on the planet for perhaps the biggest franchise makeover in NFL history, and he still took the job. ...
A photo of Oakland Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer has been working its way around social media sites, and NFL fans are noticing a drastic difference in the 25-year-old. Veldheer has clearly been spending a considerable amount of time with strength coach Mark Ehnis, who proudly posted a picture of his client (far left) on Twitter:To compare, this is what Veldheer looked like the last time he suited up for the Raiders. While 300-pound left tackles are always physically imposing people, Veldheer now looks more at home in a comic book than on a football field. Having a physique that would ...
