The Oakland Raiders look like they have drafted very well for the second straight year. Through the first three weeks of this preseason, most of this year's rookie class has shown us that they will be able to contribute now. Obviously, some in this years rookie class won't be able to contribute as much as others. So for that reason, I have compiled a rating of each noteworthy rookie's stock value at this point. Turn the page for a look at it.Begin Slideshow
The newest edition of the most successful virtual football franchise in the world is set to release tonight, with Madden NFL 12 hitting the shelves at your local retailer at midnight.Part of the intrigue in buying the game is seeing how your favorite team stacks up to others both in the game and ratings-wise.The Oakland Raiders check in at just 76 overall, which might infuriate more than a few fans who see this team on the rise in the AFC West. Especially after sweeping the division last year, the Raiders don't deserve to be almost a full 10 rating points ...
Romo was born in San Diego, California, while his father was serving in the United States Navy. His family returned to its home in Burlington, Wisconsin. Romo's athletic ability was evident even at an early age when he was selected for the Little League All-Star team Romo started as quarterback for the Burlington Demons beginning as a junior (1996 season). During his junior season, he led the Demons to a SLC Conference record of 7–2 and the WIAA playoffs. In the 1996 playoffs, Romo and the Demons defeated Greenfield 17-6 before trouncing Badger 41–16. Romo came within one game of the ...
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Terrell Pryor may have left Ohio State with a pile of problems, but he also left behind something he didn't want to, his beloved No. 2 jersey.Pryor had hoped to continue making that number his own, but in the world of Oakland Raider football, they'd rather not be reminded of another young quarterback who came to their team and wore that number: JaMarcus Russell.Russell has apparently ruined that number for a while for any future Oakland quarterbacks, and if your memory is short, here's the reason why.He came to Raiders as a first-round pick only to ...
As much as I hate to watch the Oakland Raiders lose, I didn't feel too bummed out about their 40-20 loss on national television Sunday night. That could be because it was preseason, but I have a few other reasons as well. The negatives that I did take away from that game were Darrius Heyward-Bey having two drops and the pass defense allowing Drew Brees and Chase Daniels to throw at will. The Raiders did lose by 20 points, but the first-team Raiders were in a close game. Although the New Orleans Saints cruised through the air, it was mostly DeMarcus Van ...
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints hoped to do all they could to expose an Oakland Raiders secondary that is without Nnamdi Asomugha, one of the game's best cover corners, for the first time in eight years. On Sunday night in Oakland, they did that and more.Brees and the Saints racked up 223 yards—189 of them coming through the air—in just three offensive possessions against the Raiders defense, gaining 13 first downs and scoring 17 points in the process. While against one of the NFL's elite passers and elite offenses in general, the Raiders proved what we should have known: the ...
When the Oakland Raiders take the field against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night in their fourth and final preseason game, it will be the first opportunity for fans to see Raiders' rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor in the role that got him to the league.During last night's contest between Oakland and the New Orleans Saints, Michelle Tafoya reported that Pryor would indeed be playing on Friday. He did not take the field against the Saints, but did dress for pregame warm-ups.Raiders head coach Hue Jackson has confirmed multiple times that the intention is for Pryor to play quarterback for the ...
Denarius Moore exploded on the scene in camp this year.  The fifth-round draft pick out of Tennessee was lighting the field on fire, burning starting corners Stanford Routt and Chris Johnson.  It started as a surprise and quickly became the daily reality in Raiders camp.  Moore impressed not only the coaching staff but his fellow players, rookies and veterans as well.  He seemed to have a knack for making big plays and caught virtually everything thrown his way.  At times, he was the best player on the practice field.  The Raiders wanted to see what he could do in a ...
This feels like déjà vu writing this article tonight. It seems we touched on this six months ago, and the topic is reminiscent of 2002.Nine years ago, A's General Manager Billy Beane briefly accepted a job offer to take over as GM of the Boston Red Sox, only to have a change of heart a day later and return to the A's.The firing of Chicago Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry earlier this week brought us right back down that familiar road, prompting rumors that Beane has emerged as an early candidate to serve as his successor. The rationale behind the speculation ...
The Oakland Raiders lost two important pieces to their running game this past season as Tom Cable and Robert Gallery dashed to Seattle to join the Seahawks.Cable's loss will affect the team dramatically, as a change in head coach always does, but moving Hue Jackson from offensive coordinator to head coach will likely somewhat alter the team's identity. Even if Jackson and Cable are similar in style, every coach is unique and will alter the team in some fashion (which is why the Colts brought in Jim Caldwell in Indianapolis, who has no personality to affect change). While Robert Gallery isn't ...
