Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, once known as the "Bash Brothers," really were the "Choke Brothers" for the Oakland Athletic's in the 1988 and 1990 MLB World Series. World Series games are the most important games of all. The 1972-74 Oakland A's beat a highly favored Cincinnati Reds team in 1972, beat a gritty, gutsy dangerous New York Mets team in 1973, and easily beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1974. The 1988-90 A's lost to an underdog Dodgers team in 1988 in one of the great World Series upsets. They beat the San Francisco Giants, a pitching-challenged team in 1989, ...
Sleepers are always a hot topic in the fantasy football world and everyone is beginning to speculate that next great potential sleeper in 2011.Like Jared Cook's sleeper potential. Sleepers are a funny beast, both in how a manager defines them, and the criteria that makes them up, which sometimes can be debatable. Basically, if the guy has already played, showed flashes of brilliance and could see more time this year…he could in fact be a sleeper. Minus a few other aspects, but you get the gist of it. Today I want to take a sneak peak ...
With NFL owners and players once again negotiating a deal to end the lockout, it seems fairly safe to say there will be football this upcoming season. The rookies have been affected by the lockout the most. With the lockout in place, they haven’t signed contracts or attended organized team activities (OTAs), and many of them don’t have playbooks. The lockout will make it harder for rookies to make an impact. With that being said, rookies will still be expected to make contributions to their teams no matter their role. Here are the roles the Oakland Raiders’ rookies will fill.  ...
The Oakland Raiders. The only NFL team that wears the "Black Sheep" mark on its back due to its history of being the dirtiest, nastiest and meanest team around. The Oakland Raiders represent the dark side of the NFL. The "Bad Boys" of NFL football. They have always been considered the underdogs and for many fans, they are the rebels that grow stronger when the odds are against them. As Rapper Eminem says,"They feed me the fuel that I need for the fire to burn and it's burnin' and I have returned!" Yes, the Oakland Raiders have returned! Even Raiders owner Al ...
It is almost comical how bad the Oakland Raiders have been the past eight seasons.  In the 2010 season, the Raiders somehow went 6-0 in the AFC West division and ended the season 8-8. It was the first non-losing season for the Raiders since 2002 and hopefully this trend continues in 2011.  The Raiders are a couple of players away from making a playoff run in 2011. The major needs this offseason are at wide receiver, defensive line and cornerback with the possible loss of Nnamdi Asomugha. Begin Slideshow
On a sunny, 72-degree day in Oakland, the A's would give their Dads a great Father's day gift in front of another sellout crowd in Oakland with a come from behind 2-1 win against the San Francisco Giants. The A's extended their winning streak to five games, their longest since the 2010 season. A's backup catcher Landon Powell hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth off Jeremy Affeldt, a solo shot to left field on a 2-1 pitch giving the A's a 2-1 lead. The home run by Powell would be all the A's needed. The A's ...
From 1955 to 1967, the Athletics played 13 seasons in Kansas City between the team's time in Philadelphia and Oakland. For the first half of this period, the team was essentially treated as a farm team of the New York Yankees, a story told very well by Jeff Katz in The Kansas City A’s & the Wrong Half of the Yankees.Due in large part to Arnold Johnson’s willingness to collude with the Yankees and trade away future stars—most notably, Roger Maris—the Kansas City Athletics never had a winning team. The team, which included Reggie Jackson and James "Catfish" Hunter, was ...
It may not surprise you that the old saying is true in many instances: the fruit does not fall far from the tree. Well, after doing a little research, it was discovered that there are many NFL families, and the focus in this article is to list those who have played for the Oakland Raiders. Here is a list for you to peruse. How many of these guys do you remember? Stefen Wisniewski is at the top of the list because he is a member of the current Raiders roster, and his father and uncle have influenced him. 61 Wisniewski, ...
The Oakland A's took the second game of a three game series in part two of the "Battle of the Bay" beating the Giants 4-2 in front of a sold-out crowd at Overstock.com Coliseum in Oakland. The bullpens would be the story as both starting pitchers were chased early after going 4 2/3 innings each.  The Giants first run came by way of a comedy of errors by the A's, all though one error was actually called a hit.  Catcher Chris Stewart hit a routine grounder to third baseman Scott Sizemore who appeared to trip on his own feet, but it was ruled a hit. Guillermo Moscoso then ...
So what's you favorite NFL football team?If you are part of the Raidernation, you are pretty much prepared for two responses. The first is: "Alright!, the Raiders are my team, too! What's up, brother?!" The second is the infamous: "A Raider fan, oh my God. I can't stand the Raiders."It's really a pleasure being part of the Raidernation. The Oakland Raiders have so much history, so many legendary players and for some reason, there is a multitude of people that are against the Silver and Black. In fact, I would guess that these "Raider Hater" parents probably didn't like the Oakland ...
