Sebastian Janikowski had a difficult day during the Raiders-Cardinal game on Sept. 26. One bad day, however, should not overshadow the outstanding performance of a player. In honor of George Blanda and in an effort to encourage Sebastian Janikowski, this article is posted. Janikowski and the Raider Nation will always remember that his kick could have helped win the game on Sept. 26 if it had been accurate. That failure occurred one day before the departure of one of the NFL's greatest kickers, George Blanda. The timing of both events may burn in the memories of many in the Raider Nation. It, too, may burn in ...
It’s time to just win baby. Former Denver offensive coordinator and now head coach Gary Kubiak comes to town Sunday and brings his high powered offense.  Houston’s offense is one that features all world wide receiver Andre Johnson and un-drafted sensation Arian Foster. On opening day the Texans lit up the defending AFC champion Colts and followed that up with a come from behind victory in Washington against the Redskins.  Last week they were shut down by a desperate Cowboys team in their bid to go 3-0 to open the young season. The Raiders limp home after snatching defeat from ...
Like many Raiders fans, I took Sunday’s loss hard. Not that they played that well, and Arizona did try to hand it to us, but it was a hard loss. I can see missing a 32-yard field goal on a windy, snowy day in Chicago or Green Bay, but inside in Arizona? No excuse. None. Even before he missed that try, I had been saying that Sebastian Janikowski just hasn’t looked good all season. I don’t know what the problem is, but he needs to get it together, now. Perhaps the lack of competition for the kicking spot in Oakland is part of ...
After watching their team lose to the Arizona Cardinals, most Oakland Raiders fans focused their anger on the multi-million dollar kicker Sebastian Janikowski.  Janikowski had one of his worst days as a professional on Sunday as he missed three field goals, two of which were well within his range and one that was nothing more than a chip shot. This, however, was not the only area in which the Oakland Raiders struggled against the Cardinals. If Janikowski had made even one of those field goals, the Raiders would have won. Janikowski, however, was not the only person to blame for ...
What a difference a bad tackling effort from Mike Mitchell, 3 missed field goals, and a delay of game from the goal line can make. If any one of those gaffes had not happened, the Bay Area would be buzzing about "Bruce Almighty" and the Raiders offense achieving roughly 400 yards for the second consecutive week. Instead, Tom Cable is on the "hotter" seat, Sebastian Janikowski is public enemy number one and, even worse, Bruce Gradkowski has to hold off more quarterback controversy. The truth is, while Gradkowski made a huge mistake at the goal line and threw some ...
He had the career that never ended. He was coached by legends. He's the NFL's leading scorer. And he had a biting sense of humor. Monday, football lost one of its all-time brightest stars. He began his career at the University of Kentucky where he was coached by Bear Bryant. At the time, he was heard saying after seeing Bryant, "That must be what God looks like." He was a quarterback and a kicker in college, something he always had a hard time coming to terms with in the NFL...wanting to ...
The Raiders lost heart breaker on Sunday and there was plenty of blame to go around for it. In the last article, I focused on the Raiders that didn't it done on Sunday. In a close game, we had just as many Raiders that did get it done on Sunday. In this article, I will cover those people.Turn the page to see who they are.Begin Slideshow
I have written several articles which mentioned the power and precise plays executed by George Blanda and Warren Wells, among others. Yesterday, as I watched the Oakland Raiders in the last few seconds of the game with the Cardinals, I kept yelling at my son, telling him to not worry. I shouted over and over again that George Blanda and Warren Wells helped win a game in the last eight seconds. Surely, I shouted the kicker can pull it off in this game. At the time, there were about 40 or so seconds remaining, and I was hoping that a field goal ...
According to confirmed reports, George Blanda died at the age of 83 on Monday. The former NFL star played the majority of his career with the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of the great George Blanda," the Raiders said this morning in response to the news.  Blanda played an NFL-record 26 seasons from 1949-1975. During that span, he played the rare combination of both quarterback and kicker and racked up the most points in football history with 3,418.  Moreover, he was a three-time AFL Champion and his former Raiders' coach John Madden had ...
The Raiders lost a gut-wrencher to the Cardinals 24-23 on Sunday. Sebastian Janikowski missed three field goals in this contest of 41-, 58-, and 32-yards. The last of which would have been a game-winner. SeaBass was off his game on Sunday, but the Raiders shouldn’t have needed to rely on him. The Cards should have been held to less points by the Raiders D. I have noticed a disturbing trend over the preseason and throughout the first three games of the 2010 season: John Marshall seems to think the Red Zone means Defense Play Zone. Larry Fitzgerald found himself caught in ...
