This is not a pro or anti JaMarcus Russell article. I will not be discussing the same old rhetoric about him that is so prevalent today. This will focus only on his physical tools. The natural gifts he was given and the ones that should be getting coached into him. I am looking at this simply as a coach evaluating a quarter back. Analyzing his mechanics, fundamentals and his his play. Nothing more. I will be honest in both the positive things I see as well as the negatives. When he does something well, you'll know it. ...
Oakland is coming off three straight losing seasons and Billy Beane, Bob Geren and Co. think that they have the right combination of good young pitching, potentially great defense, and scrappy, hard-nosed hitters to end the streak in 2010. If it's going to happen, it's not going to get done with the take-pitch-after-pitch, station-to-station sluggers of "Moneyball" fame.  This is an approach—the one that puts a premium on speed and aggressive plate appearances—to A's baseball that is by no means new (the great '70s teams were built that way), it just hasn't been seen in these parts since Billy Beane was ...
With the off season just underway the Oakland Raiders need to pump up their Fan Base and give us a more memorable draft than last year. Look for the Raiders to Vastly improve their run defense, run offense and passing assault. The keys to doing just that are to draft based on things other than SPEED. Alright lets do this....Begin Slideshow
Keeping Tom Cable and bringing in the offensive Minded Hue Jackson were a good start. Bringing in Pendergrast from Kansas City will help our defense as well. If our offense can start to develop we could be much better than people expect. In order to build on a somewhat respectable 2009-2010 campaign, it is essential for Oakland to make these off-season moves in order to position themselves for a Wild card run. After a dismal 5-11 record for the 2009 season,The Oakland Raiders have to now figure out how to strengthen the weak spots that have resulted in loses throughout the year. Some can be addressed in Free Agency and some through the draft, granted they can be a impact player. Much like other teams,The Oakland Raiders have had there share of injuries.Injuries are a major team killer and enough of them can send any coach packing, which is why it is good to have depth. I'm not going to predict who Al or Cable will draft, because the fact is,no one knows.Ask any "expert" and they could ...
My last article looked at the Los Angeles Angels' rotation. I gave their group a B overall. Next up is the Oakland Athletics' rotation, which has the potential to fall anywhere from worst to best in the division At the end of this article, I'll compare A's to the Angels and Rangers and see who has the best rotation.Begin Slideshow
It just makes sense to get a selective view of the history of the coaching careers of those men who coached the Oakland Raiders over the history of the franchise. This is a limited view, but still much can be learned from the study of the data for each coach. Clearly, John Madden coached more games than any other Raider coach. A few good men are listed near him in rank, if we look at the number of games coached. 142 Madden 92 Shell 92 Gruden 88 Flores 88 White Where does Cable rank in having the opportunity to coach the Raiders? His rank, 11th, is not at the bottom, and ...
The Raiders have just finished off their worst decade in history. They hold the longest streak of most double digit loss seasons in a row. They had a total of six coaches in those ten years. They finished the decade with a 62-98 record. The 2000's weren't the best years for the Raiders, even though there was early success in the decade. The Tuck Rule was introduced, and will forever be hated by Raider Fans, and of course there was the Super Bowl. Old Coach John Gruden handed the Raiders one of the worst Super Bowl losses ever. These last 7 years ...
The users at Mock Draft Central are using that website for a variety of purposes, including trying out new draft strategies, so the results aren’t something to take to the bank. However, the calculated Average Draft Position (“ADP”) of each player is our best method of viewing where players could be drafted in similar leagues, and essentially how to gauge whether fantasy players are bullish or bearish on a particular ball player for the 2010 season. I project the following players will produce much better than what it currently costs at Mock Draft Central to acquire them. Call them sleepers, or call ...
Mark Twain famously once said, "There's lies, damned lies, and then there's statistics." You be the judge. I feel that way about numbers sometimes. But the more I look at what's brewing in KC, the more alarmed I am that no one else is noticing... Scott Pioli (pictured). Romeo Crennel. Charlie Weis. You know how many Super Bowl rings these guys have? Three. And they earned them all together while building the Patriots—Pioli as scout, Crennel as DC, and Weis as OC. All under the icy glare of HC Bill Belichick. ...and the draft twist here? I think we should be drafting for Kansas ...
